Lauryn Marie released her EP, Using My Words on April 15. Some astute listeners may find that the project's tracklist is full of familiar titles. There's a reason for that.

"Back in February, Taylor Swift announced her Tortured Poets Department album and released the tracklist and I thought all of the titles were really cool," Lauryn recalled. "We hadn't heard any of the songs yet. So, I decided to try to write some of my own songs based on some of those titles and kind of predict what she was going to do with it but also see what I would do with that title," she added. "Her writing style is similar to mine and I am pretty familiar with it. It was pretty cool to combine both of our styles."

At first, she didn't have plans for a release. Instead, she was just flexing her songwriting skills on social media. "I took the title, 'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart' and I wrote a little chorus and posted it on Instagram and TikTok and it kind of took off," she said. "Then, I started doing more of those videos and decided to record five of those songs and release them before the album came out which meant I ended up recording most of them in the span of a week in my bedroom."

"I got to perform it in Belmont's Best of the Best Showcase. They do genre showcases throughout the year and I played the songwriter showcase in 2022 and won that. So, I got to play the Best of the Best Showcase in 2023 and that song's what got me there," Lauryn said of the song's early success.

Fake German heiress and convicted con artist Anna Delvey , whose real name is Anna Sorokin, and Tori Spelling were the first celebrities to get booted from the 33rd season of the ABC competition Sept. 24.

In a Sept. 28 episode of Spelling's podcast, "M isspelling ," the two bonded over being the "biggest losers" of the competitive dance show.

"We are like the biggest losers 'Dancing with the Stars' has ever seen," Delvey told Spelling, who burst out into laughter.

She added, laughing, "They thought the blondes have the most fun, and they were like, 'Just get them out of here.'"

"I honestly did not expect to go home the first show," Spelling responded, with Delvey adding, "I did not expect you to go home either."

"Like, nothing would surprise me in my situation because I'm such a wild card," Delvey continued. "But I was trying, and I was like, 'Oh, I kind of improved.'"

Delvey and her pro partner, Ezra Sosa, scored 17 out of 30 points for their quickstep , set to KT Tunstall's song "Suddenly I See." That score, combined with viewer votes, was enough to oust them from the show.

Last fall, I was all in on The Golden Bachelor , a twist on ABC's long-running dating show that features contestants in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. To be honest, I didn't care that much about the Bachelor, Gerry Turner, or his happiness. My emotional investment was in the women vying for his heart, all of whom were delightful and some of whom were extremely cool and way out of Gerry's league . I did appreciate Gerry's willingness to listen and his gentle way with everyone. But I never got attached to him as a leading man. (And for good reason, because the Golden Bachelor aftermath was a bummer!)

It could not be more different with The Golden Bachelorette , which centers the lovely Joan Vassos , a Golden Bachelor contestant who left the show prematurely for family reasons. Thank God she bailed. She very well may have won Gerry's heart—and we would have been deprived of the absolutely soul-lifting, palate-cleansing, world-righting experience of watching her on The Golden Bachelorette .

Lots of us had hoped that Leslie Fhima, a runner-up on The Golden Bachelor , would be chosen to anchor this inaugural season of The Golden Bachelorette . But what a mistake that would have been! Leslie was vulnerable and wore her past traumas openly; she looked tough, but she wasn't. Joan, for her brief time on the show, was obviously very beautiful but also pretty … normal. She loves her kids and grandkids. She has lost a spouse. She hasn't retired yet. She spoke about her feelings. But none of what I saw of her prepared me for what a rock this woman is—and how necessary that would be in allowing her suitors to open up. Joan can handle it, and it's a lot.

Believe it or not, Morgan Wallen was once on a reality singing competition before he became a bona fide country badboy. American Idol was the first reality TV series to make singers into superstars, but was the "Cowgirls" singer one of them?

Morgan has seemingly always been a hot commodity, as he left the show on Team Adam after the Maroon 5 frontman stole him from Usher during the battle rounds.

The "Confessions" artist chose Morgan's opposing duet singer to stay on his team, which left the "Wasted on You" singer vulnerable and kicked off of the competition. However, Adam saved Morgan at the last minute when he slammed his "Steal" button.

"My mom actually signed me up for The Voice , the TV show, [I] went on there. Morgan later admitted that he "wanted to sing country music, but they wanted [him] to sing pop music."

"I was just like I guess these people are really smart people, I guess I'll try it," the Grammy-nominated artist continued. "And I sang some pop songs and then they finally let me pick a song, and I picked a country song and they kicked me off."

Morgan waved goodbye to his hometown and moved to Nashville in 2015. He released his first studio album, If I Know Me, just three years after moving to Music City.

Morgan was at the top of his career after releasing Dangerous, which included songs "Sand in My Boots" and "Wasted on You." However, his world turned upside down in February 2021 after he was recorded drunkenly yelling the n-word outside of his home in Nashville.

As luck would have it, Sawyer sat down with American Songwriter to reflect on his time since winning our 2022 Song Contest just days before the release of "Roadkill Poetry." As a result, he spoke to us about the new song as well as what he has been up to since earning his win.

"It was a huge honor and I was super excited when I got the news," Austin Sawyer said of his 2022 Song Contest win. "Funnily enough, for whatever reason the emails were going to my spam folder. So, a guy from back home who I used to play with in some writers' rounds that I hadn't heard from in several years sent me a Facebook message. He was like 'Dude, congrats on second place in the American Songwriter thing!' I was like 'Oh! Sweet!'" Sawyer recalled.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Sawyer has been on the road chasing his dream. "I went on my first co-headlining tour in August last year. We did 20-ish shows in the Southeast and Midwest. So, that was really exciting," he revealed. "I had been on tour the previous summer opening for Daniel Nunnelee across the whole country. But it was cool to take the risk to headline and see if people would show up and it was very well received," Sawyer added.

"After I did that tour, there was a bit of a lull. The music business tends to get quiet in the winter. But I recorded a new record back in early April," Austin Sawyer said. "I Went out to LA to work with Mike Viola who is a really, really amazing creative producer. He's worked with Dawes, Panic at the Disco, Andrew Bird, just all across the board. A bunch of cool people. So it was a cool opportunity to do that," he added.

"We recorded in a home studio that wasn't much bigger than a walk-in closet. We live-tracked everything in there. So, the feel of this record is very like you're in the room. That is kind of what I go for, I want it to feel as personal and intimate to the listener as possible," Sawyer said of the forthcoming album Roadkill Poetry .
