Clifton's Hailey Mia Talks 'American Idol,' Growing Up In NJ
Hailey Mia, a 16-year-old Clifton native, appeared on the second episode of the newest season of "American Idol" on Sunday night, got a standing ovation from all the celebrity judges and advanced to the Hollywood round. The up-and-coming singer spoke to NorthJersey.com about her experience, inspirations and upbringing in New Jersey.
Mia said she felt a combination of emotions on the day of her audition that included being nervous but also excited for the opportunity. She said that by the time she performed, she felt calm, and she proceeded to blow the judges away with her rendition of the Katy Perry song "Rise."
Her weekly singing lessons continued until the COVID pandemic, when remote lessons posed some challenges, but she remained passionate and continued to perfect her craft.
All those days working hard paid off. Before she stood out on "American Idol," Mia made it to the final on NBC's "The Voice" in December 2021 when she was just 14. She loved her experience on that show but said "Idol" has been her dream for years. She emphasized how insane it feels that she has made it Hollywood.
The young singer said her parents are her inspirations and biggest backers and that she is "so grateful to have that huge support system behind me." Her family held a watch party for her first appearance on the show, and Mia said they were so excited at times that she could not even hear herself sing.
As far as musical inspirations, Mia called Adele her idol. She considers her style a blend of musicians including Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae and, of course, Adele.
Despite the comparisons she makes, those around her recognize that she has a unique voice of her own. "American Idol" judge Lionel Richie said of her performance, "I think that's the greatest one so far, for me. ... Reinventing that song with your voice, you make it sound like yours."

Scientists followed the women for an average of 7.5 years. During this time, there were 407 cases of heart failure.
"I encourage patients in this age group to exercise as much as they can," Vallakati told Medical News Today . "If all women in this age group walked 2,500 steps a day, it could reduce the risk of heart failure by 25%."
"As a medical community, we should be encouraging people to become and stay active," he added. "The more people get moving the better their health will be. People often believe that they have to exercise strenuously to make a dent in their cardiovascular risk. The truth is that anything is better than nothing, building habits are better than isolated activity, and sedentary behavior leads to worse health outcomes."

Bachelor Joey Graziadei To Address Speculation About His Yellow Eyes
Us Weekly brought up the 28-year-old's various viral moments on Thursday, February 22, starting with his remarks that Malta, where the group traveled during week 4 of the season, is a city with an "old-school vibe."
"I've seen a lot of these different things and what I think about it is what we're talking about, which is people are invested. I'm OK being the butt of jokes at certain points. As for the old-school vibes, I knew Malta was an old place. I didn't know that it was going to get judged as much as it did, but you got to laugh through it," Joey told Us .

Not everyone can cut it in the pros playing football. But, after landing a dream job in the NFL, Vikings receiver Blake Proehl is finding success in another tough industry: the music business.
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Blake Proehl, former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, made an impression by auditioning for Season 22 of "American Idol." Proehl performed a rendition of Brett Young’s "In Case You Didn’t Know" that gave judge Katy Perry goosebumps.
Proehl was accompanied by his grandmother, who he says encouraged him to pursue "American Idol." His grandmother was also featured in one of his first viral TikToks.
Proehl signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2021 NFL Draft. In a preseason practice with Denver, Proehl blew out his knee in four places. He didn't see it at the time, but this injury was about to give way to a major opportunity.
His musical talent was first noticed by fans on TikTok when he began posting covers as well as original songs.
"So I posted a few videos of me singing and like they were doing pretty good," he said. "Fast forward to like December and I posted a video to my grandma, and it got like 25 million views."

Love Island's Chloe Burrows Breaks Silence On Cheating Allegations As She Hits Back After Toby Aromolaran Admits Split ...
Chloe Burrows has broken her silence on cheating allegations after her ex boyfriend Toby Aromolaran 's antics during Tuesday night's episode of Love Island.
The semi-professional footballer, 24, appeared to confirm that Chloe, who was his first and only girlfriend, cheated on him, as he voiced his hatred of cheating.
However Chloe, 28, has now hit back at the claims as she discussed cheating exes on her podcast Chloe Vs The World alongside best friend and Love Island winner Millie Court .
Chloe seemed to hint that Toby also cheated on her, as she declared: 'Any boy that I have ever been with that's gone on holiday has cheated on me.
She continued: 'When we're not there they think they can get away with it, but we always find out.'
Toby and Chloe met in the 2021 summer series of the dating show, coming in second place before dating for over a year and even moving in together in Essex.

Katy Perry Quits 'American Idol,' Announces Exit On Jimmy Kimmel
"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for 'Idol,'" she said, responding to a question from Jimmy Kimmel about how long she plans to stay on "Idol." "I mean, I love 'Idol' so much. I know. It's connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You know what I'm saying, Jimmy?"
When asked what Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan , her fellow judges on the show, think about her plans, Perry indicated that she had not yet told them.
After Kimmel expressed surprise at this, Perry added that Richie and Bryan "know" in that they were aware she has "some things planned for this year," including performing at the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil.
"It's going to be a very, very exciting year, Jimmy, for all pop star girlies," Perry teased. "Let's just say I'm creating space for my new wingspan."
She went on to tell Kimmel, who admitted he was "taken aback" by the news, that she has "been in the studio for a while" and wants to leave "American Idol" so she can "go and see the world and maybe bring new music."
Perry is back for the 22nd season of "American Idol," which premieres on ABC on Feb. 18. She has been with the singing competition show since Season 16, which debuted in 2018.
Perry's exit has not been officially confirmed by ABC, and she told Kimmel that "maybe I'll come back if they have me one day." USA TODAY reached out to ABC representatives for comment.
In 2023, Perry concluded a concert residency in Las Vegas that began in 2021. She teased to "Good Morning America" in August that she was working on writing new music. Her most recent studio album, " Smile ," debuted in August 2020.

Anton Du Beke is best known for starring on the BBC One celebrity dancing show and has appeared in every series to date since its inception in 2004.
