‘You Wanna Be On Top?' Lifting The Veil On ‘America's Next Top Model'

There were outlandish challenges that required models to dodge swinging pendulums on a catwalk or pose inside a giant Greek salad. Other scenes, now infamous, had models appear in blackface and endure extreme temperatures or dangerous conditions that even caused them to faint. They were also subjected to “Ty-rades.”

For 15 years, “America's Next Top Model” pushed contestants to the edge of what it took to win a reality television show. The audience, primarily young women, gobbled it up without hesitation, learning how to “smize” from the host and model Tyra Banks, but “make it fashion.”

In the years since it went off the air in 2018, the show has become equal parts meme candy and ripe for criticism as fans have re-examined the scenes on social media with a fresh perspective: Did the show reflect the harsh realities of the modeling industry, or make the experience worse? “ Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model ,” a new documentary from Netflix, may finally lift the curtain on the show's legacy.

Banks has largely avoided addressing pointed criticism of the show, but she told the “Today” show in 2020 that she had apologized for some of her decisions . In the trailer for the documentary, she admits that the show was “very, very intense,” adding: “But you guys were demanding it. And so we kept pushing more, and more, and more.”

We Asked A Doctor Which Exercise Is Most Effective For Strengthening Your Heart

Most people know the importance of regular physical activity for heart health. But with trendy workouts ranging from HYROX to pilates, it can be hard to know which to choose.

So, we asked our chief medical officer, Sohaib Imtiaz, MD, what type of exercise is best for heart health.

Q: We know that exercise is great for your health long-term, but for people who want to get the most out of their workouts, what kind of exercise would you recommend to improve heart health?

HIIT is a form of physical activity that alternates between short bursts of high-intensity exercise and brief periods of rest.

Some HIIT protocols are strictly cardio-based. For example, you might sprint on a treadmill for 30 seconds, and then walk for one minute, and repeat.

Kevin O'Leary Recalls Brutal Paddling Scene With Timothee Chalamet

Kevin O'Leary reflected on one of the most memorable — and definitely the most brutal — scene in the Oscar-nominated "Marty Supreme" in which his character paddles Timothée Chalamet to humiliate him.

The "Shark Tank" star told Fox News Digital that they started shooting the scene around 3:45 in the morning, and a stunt performer was going to take the beating, not the A-list Chalamet.

"We had a stunt a--," O'Leary explained. "And the idea was the stunt a-- would come in. We had a fake paddle with a silicon hinge on it, and that broke on the first hit. It just didn't work. It didn't even look real."

Then he said Chalamet surprised everyone by proclaiming: "‘Wait a second, it's gonna be my a--. I'm not gonna let someone else immortalize their a-- as my a--, I'll do my a--!' And I said, ‘Look, man, we're gonna go to a real paddle here. I'll try and hold back.'"

But when he did some slower hits, the director, Josh Safdie, said it wasn't working and didn't look real.

"‘This is a crucial scene in the discipline, and we need the real thing,'" Safdie explained, according to O'Leary. "'So, Timmy, either let the, you know, stunt a-- sit in, or you're gonna get your a-- whacked.'"

The first-time feature film actor said he "laid into him, and he got his a-- whacks one cheek at a time, so the other could cool down. You know, but I imprinted the brand of that paddle in his left cheek."

Ali Larter's Career Journey From 'Varsity Blues' To 'Landman' Success...

Larter shared all the work comes before getting in front of the camera, saying ⁘preparation is relaxation.⁘

"Those are the hardest for me," she continued. "I don't enjoy them. It's just part of the story that I'm telling, and I'm an actress, so I get on board. But those are definitely my least favorite."

The actress got her start in the industry as a model when she was 13 years old. Her modeling career took her around the world before she decided to step away from the fashion industry and pursue acting.

Following a few small roles, including appearances on "Suddenly Susan" and "Dawson's Creek," Larter had her big break when she starred as Darcy in the 1999 movie, "Varsity Blues."

"'Varsity Blues' is what began it all, and it was a really feel good movie... I think it was a simpler time in a way and I think that, again, it was a feel good movie, but I love that even for Darcy, I was able to show her vulnerability," Larter told People about the film in November 2025. "This was a girl who was trying to find her way out, and then you see her deeply embarrassed and crying over the choices that she's made for herself as a young girl."

Love Island's Lucinda Strafford Hit With Warning Over Villa Behaviour - OK! Magazine

While Belle kept her possibly suitor, USA bombshell Carrington Rodriguez, at arm's length to protect Sean's feelings, Sean's head was turned by Lucinda. Last night (February 1) Belle was left furious after returning to the main villa to discover Sean and Lucinda's fling.

After confronting Sean, the ITV star broke down into tears as she continued: ⁘I f**** leave for three days. Three f***** days. I uphold my f***** dignity and my respect for him regardless of how my connection is over there. I've done nothing but be respectable.⁘

It sparked a major falling out in the villa, with Belle vowing to avoid Lucinda going forward. However, ahead of the explosive moment, Lucinda was given a warning about her behaviour from co-star Samie, who also arrived on the series as a bombshell.

Samie pulled Lucinda aside after spotting her chatting with Sean, asking what was said between the pair. Lucinda revealed: ⁘He could have been clearer with his feelings when he talked to me, but he does like me.⁘

Samie replied: ⁘This is mad. Him and Belle were in such a good place before they left. I'm so shocked and Belle is a good mate of mine. I obviously don't know what's going on back there, but this is really gonna upset her.

“You have to do what you want to do, but this is so hard for me to even see happen. Sean wasn't even on the radar so I'm thrown by it.⁘ She then warned Lucinda: ⁘Tread with caution. Just think about it a little bit.”

Additionally, the text over the video goes: “No one tells you the feeling you get when the person you love more than anything in this world asks you to spend forever with them. It's not about the ring, or the wedding, it's about the mutual commitment, the spiritual intertwine ⁘ excitement for forever as a unit.”

The founder of the Rhode Island-based vintage store Folk Vintagen shared a sneak peek of her dazzling engagement ring on Instagram Stories. She revealed that it fills the empty heart tattoo she got three years ago.

Bachelor Nation stars flooded the comments with love, with Hakeem Moulton commenting, “Congrats queen!!!”. Meanwhile, Katelyn DeBacker wrote “Love love love!! Congratulations, Syd.”

Gordon first made her relationship with Nel, a wellness coach and founder of Vitālis Wellness, public on TikTok in August 2025. Back then, she said that, despite having been together for just two months, she “already knew that he's the one.”

The couple was planning to move in together in Newport, R.I. However, Gordon announced on TikTok on January 3 that they were returning to South Africa. She also revealed her plan of opening a second vintage shop in Cape Town.
