Quinnipiac Rugby Star Ilona Maher On Dancing With The Stars

At the 2024 Paris Olympics,  Ilona Maher became the first Quinnipiac University athlete to win an Olympic medal . On Tuesday night, she became the first-ever rugby player to dance on "Dancing with the Stars," said co-host Alfonso Ribeiro during the premiere of the show.

"I tackle the game like a beast, but in the ballroom, I'm bringing the beauty," Maher said in her "Dancing with the Stars" introduction video.

In the premiere, judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba gave Maher and her dancing partner Alan Bersten a score of 18 out of 30 total points for their "Cha Cha" dance to Shania Twain's "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" 

"You're coming from a sport that's all about impact. That's okay, you can have impact in dance as well," Derek Hough said to Maher during the premiere. "For a first dance, great job."
