Addison Rae Responds to Backlash to Dancing Without Crediting Creators | PEOPLE.com

"They're so talented, and I definitely don't do them justice," the social media star said of the TikTokers whose dances she performed on The Tonight Show

Addison Rae is addressing backlash she received after failing to credit the mostly Black creators of the TikTok dances she performed last week on The Tonight Show .

When asked about the incident, Rae (whose real name is Addison Easterling) told TMZ that leaving the creator's names out of the sketch was unintentional, saying the original choreographers "definitely deserves all the credit."

"I think they were all credited in the original YouTube posting , but it's kinda hard to credit during the show," she said. "But they all know that I love them so much and I mean, I support all of them so much. And hopefully one day we can all meet up and dance together."

She also said she and the show's team were discussing the incident "behind the scenes" and added, "But it was so much fun. I had so much fun, and I'm very grateful and thankful. It was a great time."

During the broadcast, Rae performed eight dances that have gone viral on TikTok (including "Blinding Lights," "Up," "Savage Love" and "Laffy Taffy"), while host Jimmy Fallon held up cards bearing the titles of the trends.

"Ever since the beginning, I've been talking to most of them and definitely want to collab with a lot of them," she told TMZ.

Addison Rae Used a Glass Shield a Face Mask While Out in NYC

Of course, the Internet could not get over this moment and many took to Twitter to try to discern what she was holding in front of her. Guesses included an oversized wine glass, a hairspray shield, and my personal favorite, a candy scooper.

The conversation then spilled over to TikTok, where one user had fun making their own Addison-inspired masks.

Bryce Hall Denies Cheating on Addison Rae, Confirms Breakup

Said Hall in a video titled "we broke up." posted to his channel, "Both of us are going through a shit ton of things right now behind-the-scenes that we don't necessarily comfortably want to talk about, to a camera especially. With all that stress, we've mutually decided that it would be best if we parted ways. I don't want to be painted as the bad guy in this situation, at all. I think everything on social media has been exploded way out of proportion."

"I'll be honest. I ended it," Hall says about their breakup on Thursday's episode of BFFs With Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards , elaborating on what precipitated the split. "I was completely stressed out with … Dude, I paid so much money in lawyer fees to get all this bullshit off of my plate." The "bullshit" in question, he clarifies, was the rumor that he slept with model and adult-film actress Dana Wolf during a trip to Las Vegas. When asked if Rae believed he hadn't cheated on her , Hall says, "Yeah, she did, but at the same time, it was like, the trust wasn't fully there." Clarifies Hall, "She knows I didn't cheat." He then goes on to allege the cheating gossip was part of a $75,000 extortion attempt, which, of course, is where the lawyers come in.

And as for the rumor that Hall cheated on Addison Rae with Josie Canseco, well, the Sway House resident says they're just "vibing" at the moment. "Me and Josie are just good friends," he says, but admits he's definitely been dating since he and Rae broke up. Either way, don't worry: Bryce Hall and Addison Rae are still on good terms. Like, maybe more than good terms. "We talk occasionally," laughs Hall. "Like, everyday."

Addison Rae Responds to Criticism That "The Tonight Show" Didn't Credit Dance

"This is what white privilege looks like—Black creators innovate dances and do them amazingly but Addison Rae gets invited on Fallon to perform them in a ho-hum way," one Twitter user said. "She’s not racist, Fallon’s not racist, but somehow the Black dancers are erased. Even though they dance better."

"It's kind of hard to credit during the show," she continued. "They all know that I love them so much and I support all of them so much and hopefully one day we can all meet up and dance together."

Addison also said that she is speaking to Jimmy about the situation privately. It's unclear if they have any plans to credit the creators further.

Addison Rae Responds to Criticism for Not Crediting Black Creators on The Tonight Show

However, following the segment, many criticized Addison for failing to credit the mostly Black creators who popularized the TikTok dances.

"I think they were all credited in the original YouTube posting , but it's kinda hard to credit during the show," she explained. "But they all know that I love them so much and I mean, I support all of them so much. And hopefully one day we can all meet up and dance together."

Furthermore, Addison said she and The Tonight Show team were discussing the backlash. However, she didn't disclose who she's been in communication with or the conversations taking place.

"We're speaking kinda all about it behind the scenes" she noted, adding, "But it was so much fun. I had so much fun, and I'm very grateful and thankful...It was a great time."

Additionally, the "Obsessed" singer told the outlet she'd love to work with Black creators in the near future.

"I think ever since the beginning, I've been talking with most of them. I definitely want to collab with a lot of them," she shared. "So, hopefully, once the world opens up, we can all meet up and do something together 'cause it'd be so much fun! And they're all so talented and I definitely don't' do them justice. They're amazing."

The same day the internet star spoke out about the incident, she also posted a message that hinted at the backlash.

Addison Rae Easterling performed a set of popular TikTok dances on "The Tonight Show." Their creators, some of whom are Black, were not credited.

HBO Max has landed on an admittedly inspired choice to play novelist Michael Peterson in its upcoming dramatization of long-running docuseries The Staircase, having tasked Colin Firth to play the sharp-tongued, avuncular, poofy-haired, disconcertingly hard-staring academic, which: Yes, well done.

Addison Rae under fire for "stealing" TikTok dances from black creators on Jimmy Fallon

TikTok sensation Addison Rae made her debut appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Saturday 27 March. But, after the star performed a series of dances, some backlash sparked over proper credit to the creators.

Rae, 20, appeared on the chat show to discuss and perform her new single, ‘Obsessed’ as well as sitting down with a discussion with Fallon about her budding career. With over 78 million followers and a net worth of $2 million, she is undeniably one of the most successful creators on the platform.

As a dancer, Addison built a lot of her fanbase by performing a range of dances on the app like ‘Savage’, ‘Laffy Taffy’ and ‘Corvette’. However, following her appearance on Fallon’s chat show, which included a segment where Rae “taught” the presenter eight of the most widespread TikTok dancers, the pair have found themselves under fire for not crediting the original creators of the dances mentioned.

Sunny Austin, host of talk show the ‘The View’, said in a Tweet that the lack of credit was “a miss” by Jimmy. “Let’s give credit to black creators,” she Tweeted.

This is a miss @jimmyfallon . Let’s give credit to the black creators…… https://t.co/4fy9p96J1G

With a lot of the popular TikTok dances being made by black artists, fans on Twitter argued that Addison appearing to “take credit” for their dances meant that they were being erased.

Noah Schnapp – do it again
Keara Wilson – savage
yvnggprince – corvette corvette
Jason Derulo – savage love
2flyymy – Laffy taffy
macdaddyz – blinding lights https://t.co/DVb982cFwm

Another user on Twitter slammed the decision to have Rae come on Jimmy Fallon to teach the dances rather than the original creators:

So I’m guessing all of the black creators who made these dances up were busy huh? https://t.co/RS6boMNZH8

Addison Rae - Obsessed Lyrics - The West News

You turned our song down, baby, what for?
You had lit candles on the dashboard
Red roses growin’ out of the door
Wanna say somethin’ you never said before

We were drivin’ down Sunset
You know I love fast cars
Passed by where we first met
Damn, we made it so far
Red eyes from the red light
And that just set the mood
You say you’re obsessed with me
So I took a second
And I said, “Me too”

I did my hair like waves on the beach
This dress so tight, you can’t even speak
My heels so high, might get a nosebleed
Music’s so loud, but I hear your heartbeat
