The Beef Between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift: A Timeline
Is there anything more tragic / dramatic than the tale of old friends who ultimately become bitter enemies? It's been the subject of countless movies, WWE plotlines, songs, and diss tracks. And while you wouldn't think of pop stars churning out radio-friendly hits as being involved in a war of attrition, the fact of the matter is you don't get to the top unless you take the work that you do very seriously. This could be why there's beef between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry . Here's a timeline of their ire towards one another.
While historians are unsure as to the exact moment Tay Tay and K. Perr began their friendship, there's evidence on Twitter that it dates back as early as July 6, 2009. Katy Perry tweeted out that the "Blank Space" singer was "sweet as pie" and that she wanted to collaborate on a song with the artist. Taylor was equally friendly with Katy and dished out on Twitter how much she loved her "Waking Up In Vegas" track.
They were so close at one point that Taylor was calling Katy's birthday a "party-licious" affair. Taylor was certainly laying the love on thick — you don't just say that someone's bday was party-licious if you didn't entirely mean it, because what does that even mean?
In 2010, they actually performed "Hot N Cold" together when Katy joined Tay on her "Fearless" tour. There's video footage of these two concert titans sharing a stage as the crowd went wild. All was well in pop-stardom land for the two ladies.
However, drama started occurring behind the scenes, or stage rather, when it came to securing dancers for their respective shows. Katy had three performers on the road for her "California Dreams" tour end up on Taylor Swift's "Red" series of shows. However, before the "Red" tour was over, those three dancers jumped ship to join Katy on "Prismatic."
And like all good artists, Taylor Swift turned what was honestly going on with her into a song. Remember the track "Bad Blood"? She told Rolling Stone at the time that it was about another female pop star.
"It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me," she told the longtime music outlet.
At the time, no one knew that issues were brewing between Tay and Katy, and the "Wildest Dreams" singer still hasn't confirmed or denied the track was about the "Dark Horse" singer. Folks who were keen to monitor the two pop stars' social media accounts may have pieced together that Taylor was talking about Katy when, shortly after the interview, the "Last Friday Night" singer tweeted, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing."
Regina George is the alpha "mean girl" in the classic piece of American cinema (and I'm not being sarcastic here) Mean Girls . In an interview with the Telegraph , Taylor also said that she's never going to talk about which female pop star she was referring to: "I’m not giving them anything to write about. I’m not walking up the street with boys, I’m not stumbling out of clubs drunk. But I’m never going to talk about her in my interview. It’s not going to happen."
Preview: “Spirit Untamed” – Cowboys and Indians Magazine
The galloping protagonist of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is returning for another adventure: Spirit Untamed , an animated feature set to open in theaters June 4. And no less a luminary than Taylor Swift can be heard on the latest promotional spot for the film, which skillfully employs Swift's "Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)."
As for the sequel itself — here's what the Universal Pictures publicity people tell us what's in store for us.
"Lucky Prescott (voiced by Isabela Merced) never really knew her late mother, Milagro Navarro (Eiza González), a fearless horse-riding stunt performer from Miradero, a small town on the edge of the wide-open frontier.
"Like her mother, Lucky isn't exactly a fan of rules and restrictions, which has caused her Aunt Cora (Julianne Moore) no small amount of worry. Lucky has grown up in an East Coast city under Cora's watchful eye, but when Lucky presses her own luck with one too many risky escapades, Cora picks up stakes and moves them both back with Lucky's father, Jim (Jake Gyllenhaal), in Miradero.
"Lucky is decidedly unimpressed with the sleepy little town. She has a change of heart when she meets Spirit, a wild Mustang who shares her independent streak, and befriends two local horseback riders, Abigail Stone (Mckenna Grace) and Pru Granger (Marsai Martin). Pru's father, stable owner Al Granger (Andre Braugher), is the best friend of Lucky's father.

'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' Debuts First Original Song | Billboard
Throughout its previous episodes, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist has licensed such beloved songs as "American Pie," "Help" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" to express the innermost thoughts and desires of protagonist Zoey Clarke's friends, family members and co-workers.
As fans of the show know, Zoey's superpower is that only she can hear the musical expressions of their internal feelings. That all changes with episode 20, "Zoey's Extraordinary Birthday," which airs Sunday (April 4) on NBC at 9 p.m. ET. For the first time, the show will feature an original song and everyone -- not just Zoey -- can hear it, much to Zoey's chagrin.
Aiden and his garage band play "Crimson Love" -- which NBC is sharing first with Billboard -- for Zoey at her 30th birthday party. The song's specificity (and intentionally humorous blend of sweet and cringeworthy) as Aiden declares his attraction to Zoey demanded an original song.
"We've always wanted to do original songs on the show. It's just been a question of when and what works with our conceit," says Austin Winsberg, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist 's creator and show runner. Winsberg wrote "Crimson Love" with show writer Lindsay Rosin and the show's executive music producer Harvey Mason Jr.
"There's a funny element that would only be achieved by writing it," Mason says. "Austin came up with some very clever lyrics. No one knows the arc of the characters better than Austin."
Musically, the catchy up-tempo alternative pop song sounds straight out of the early 2000s, a throwback to a time when it seemed as though there was an endless stream of one-hit wonder rock bands. "We were just trying to think what a garage band would sound like," Mason says. "They had guitar, keyboards, bass and drums, so we know it couldn't be a big huge epic sound."
Plus, the songwriters had to keep the tune deliberately simple and not musically proficient beyond an amateur garage band's skills. "We had a discussion about what kind of musicians are they?" Mason says. "Are they virtuosos? Zoey's brother is playing keyboards and we know he's not a professional musician. There are certain chords we can do and ones we can't."
Since the pandemic, Mason has worked out of his Los Angeles studio instead of flying back and forth to the Vancouver location where the show is taped. "It has made it less fun because I don't get to hang out with the cast and Austin," Mason says, but adds the lack of travel has probably improved productivity. "We're sending MP3s back and forth five or six times a day."
Mason hopes to write more original music for the show -- "I love the challenge of trying to come up with stuff that fits the scene and energy," he says -- and he may get his wish.
Taylor Swift serves as a role model in women’s empowerment – The Paisano
She isn't just a folklore everyone talks about; a legend we can all dream about in our wildest dreams; or a girl wearing a cardigan writing a love story with teardrops on her guitar. Having been in the music industry since the age of 13, Taylor Swift has had the opportunity to grow as a singer-songwriter, but most importantly, as a female in a male-dominated industry. However, her career has not always been all glitter and kittens. She has had to undergo treacherous obstacles that have made her who she is today.
Time and time again, Taylor has been degraded by men in this industry. From an interviewer wrongly placing his hands on her for a picture to Kanye West disrespecting her at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. More recently, Taylor has lost her entire catalog of songs not once but twice without her consent.
As she still has the publishing rights to the songs themselves, she promised her fans re-recordings of all six albums. Proving herself, she released Love Story (Taylor's Version) this year, bringing back youthful memories through her carefully reinvented masterpiece that reached number one, once again.
Putting aside the negativity that men in this industry have brought her, Taylor Swift has collected several titles for her hard work and dedication. In 2019, Taylor received awards for Billboard Women of the Decade and AMAs Artist of The Decade. Both well deserved, Taylor has proven to the entire world that, as much as it scares society, she is in the music industry. She has out-nominated and won not only in country and pop but now in the indie/alternative rock genre.
Overall, Taylor Swift has been and continues to be a role model for every little girl wanting to be a superstar, the twenty-year-old being afraid to speak up for herself, or even the thirty-year-old feeling as if she is too old or not fun enough.
Why Joe Alwyn Was the Right Guy for Taylor Swift's Love Story - E! Online
If society is undergoing a collective reckoning about the way we all once treated rich, attractive, incredibly famous young ladies, well, Taylor Swift would like a word.
"You know, I went out on a normal amount of dates in my early 20s, and I got absolutely slaughtered for it," she explained to Vogue while posing for their May 2016 cover. At the time, she couldn't quite decipher the underlying misogynistic messaging, but some seven years later, as a woman on the precipice of turning 30, she was ready to call it what she wanted to.
Then she realized it was time to stop listening to the messaging "that I'm not allowed to date for excitement, or fun, or new experiences or learning lessons," she noted to Glamour UK in 2015. The idea that she was "only allowed to date if it's for a lasting, multiple-year relationship," lest she be labeled "boy crazy" or a "serial dater," she continued, "I don't think that's fair."
Because if she hadn't garnered the lessons and the fun from connecting with the likes of Calvin Harris or Harry Styles or Tom Hiddleston , who knows if she would have been ready for the guy that seems primed to fulfill the love story she's been writing about since she was an idealistic Nashville-based teen with dreams of finding the Romeo to her Juliet?
Certainly Joe Alwyn has all the good-on-paper qualities: Attractive, talented, intelligent and British, which, admittedly seems like a bit of a trend. And he has none of the red flags she listed in a 2012 chat with Vogue in which she stressed the importance of being with someone who appreciates a woman with the skills and acumen to build and, at times, rebuild her own damn empire.
"If you need to put me down a lot in order to level the playing field or something?" she said. "If you are threatened by some part of what I do and want to cut me down to size in order to make it even? That won't work."
In the early months of their romance nearly five years ago, Swift and the London-based actor went into "lockdown" mode, a source told E! News , an approach that involved a series of private jets, UK customs officials willing to check her passport on the tarmac, blacked-out sedans and dates spent in private locales where, says the source, "they could really get to know each other without the pressure of being in a public relationship and people making judgment calls."
Even after The Sun revealed "Taylor's Secret Brit Love" in May of 2017, the couple maintained their cloak and dagger routine, rarely stepping out in public together and certainly never showing their faces.
She had other strategies at the ready for when Alwyn crashed at her penthouses in Nashville and New York. Both homebodies, they often skipped what would certainly be heavily photographed dinners out in favor of cooking themselves or ordering in delivery, as they did for a get together she hosted in Nashville. Should they need to venture out, the crafty pair would rely on a solid trio of burly bodyguards, sleek sedans and bulky clothing to help them slip around unnoticed.
