The path to better photography is the same as a musician’s route to Carnegie Hall: practice, practice, practice.
But these tips, hacks, ideas and tactics will get you there faster. They’ve been collected from photo staffers at the Los Angeles Times and several teachers over the years.
Yet there are always exceptions. The better you understand the rules, the better you’ll know when to break them.
1. Get closer, physically. The more you fill your frame with your main subject, the better your chances of making a powerful image. Robert Capa, the great World War II photographer, was famous for this advice.
This may worth something:
Another 'Walking Dead' Easter Egg Makes Beta's Identity An Open Secret
The Walking Dead has gone from hinting about Beta's under-the-mask true identity to pretty much just spelling it out.
This past week, we had yet another easter egg to add to the pile, though if you didn't catch it, I wouldn't blame you. It's actually a two-for-one easter egg, which sounds weird, but you'll understand in a minute.
So, this is the other half of the easter egg, as the theory is that it's actually Beta's pre-apocalypse identity singing the tune. Out of context, this sounds very weird, but here's the list of evidence so far.
'Secret Consumer Scores' Explain Why Some People Get Much Better Service Than Others.
Until recently, it was impossible for consumers to know what data big companies were accumulating on them--never mind, to learn how it's all used. Finally, however, consumers have some recourse.
Writing in the New York Times , technology reporter Kashmir Hill explained how she got the 400-page report that one of the technology companies, called Sift, had compiled on her.
I talked with Hill separately this week for Understandably about how she got her information. (She also shared the story of how a single tweet she posted last spring led to her getting hired at the Times in the first place.)
Secret of Classic Belgian Beers: Medieval Super Yeasts
Some of the most renowned classic Belgian beers, including Gueuze and Trappist ales, are fermented with a rare and unusual form of hybrid yeasts.
* * *
“These yeasts are hybrids between two completely different species” says Dr. Jan Steensels (VIB – KU Leuven Center for Microbiology), who coordinated the lab work of this study. “Think of lions and tigers making a super-baby.”
Such interspecific hybridizations are rare and seem to be favored by the domestication process. In this case, the new hybrid yeasts combined important characteristics of both parental species, with the fermentation capacity of normal beer yeasts and the stress tolerance and capacity to form special aromas of more feral ancient yeasts like S. kudriavzevii that haphazardly made their way into the brewery.
And here's another article:
Your Secret Score : Planet Money : NPR
Ever wonder why sometimes you are left on hold for an hour when you call customer service and sometimes they answer right away? Kashmir Hill, a reporter from The New York Times, says it could be your consumer score.
Companies keep records of our purchases, our store returns, our online orders and even our online conversations. And all of this information is then used to determine your consumer 'value.' The more profitable you are, the better service you might get.
Ask Evergreen: Secret Socialite – The Lumberjack
Healthy relationships involve frequent and meaningful communication, even if that means confessing you have a secret social media account.
The whole reason for having an alternate Instagram account is to hide it from your regular account's followers. However, considering that you could have been forthcoming about the situation to avoid any disdain, it makes sense that your boyfriend is irritated.
Your boyfriend is probably upset with you because you chose not to tell him. If he found out about your finsta on his own or through your friends he could feel like he's left out of your loop.
Severna Park's 'secret stroke girl' helps claim 4A field hockey title - The Washington Post
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Severna Park senior midfielder Lila Slattery fired a shot in the Maryland 4A state field hockey championship game and she thought it was a good one, but an illegal block cut the ball short before it reached the goal.
When the referees signaled for a penalty stroke, the senior leaped in the air as if the shot had landed in the back of the cage.
"I jumped up because I knew: We can score on a stroke," Slattery said. "Kat can score on a stroke."
