Best Fantasy Book Series and Sci Fi Book Series of All Time - Thrillist

The sheer number of new science-fiction and fantasy books published in any given year can be overwhelming, and it doesn't help matters that both genres are so series-heavy! The 30 Best Fantasy Book Series of All Time - Paste www.pastemagazine.com ...best - fantasy - book - ...all...The 30 Best Fantasy Book Series of All Time. By Frannie Jackson | February 23, 2016 ...On one hand, the game-based fiction provides an otherwise impossible immersion to such a world. On the other ...!! We've done the hard work for you and rounded up the 21 best science fiction fantasy series of all time, in no particular order.

For the sake of tidiness (and our own sanity), we've limited this list to series that include at least three books, and that are either completely finished or have no further books currently planned (so, no A Song of Fire and Ice ), or have at least one finished multi-book story arc within the larger series (for instance, the Farseer Trilogy is a completed series within the Realm of the Elderlings series).
More: The best books published in 2019 so far

Including: Consider Phlebas , The Player of Games , Use of Weapons , The State of the Art
If we have to say more than "utopian socialism on sentient spaceships" to sell you on this series, it may not be for you, but give it a shot anyway, won't you? Banks started the Culture series at a time when space opera was considered facile and passé, and took full advantage of that attitude to reinvent and revitalize the genre, offering a smart, playful, and often stylistically flashy subversion of space opera tropes wrapped around a core of radical politics.

Invisibility technology straight out of science fiction

When inventor Guy Cramer met with the U.S. Army's most elite unit, he asked the operators if they had a way for their troops to move through a building undetected if it used security measures such as thermal cameras or motion sensors. They replied that no, they didn't.

* * *

It all started back in 2012 when Cramer came across a technology that had been around since the 1920's: lenticular lenses. This is the type of material used on children's books, games, movie posters or comic books that create the appearance of a 3D image as the viewer moves the medium around from left to right. Cramer realized that this material had never been used outside the scope of what it had originally been designed for and began experimenting with it.

He soon realized that the material had light-bending properties which could make an object (or person) behind it "disappear." With further experimentation, he greatly improved this ability and developed a product that he calls Quantum Stealth. Despite showing it off to various military and law enforcement organizations, Quantum Stealth remains out of government hands for the time being and Cramer has now applied for commercial patents in the U.S. and Canada.

Kwame Mbalia's new novel published by Rick Riordan Presents | Raleigh News & Observer

Raleigh author Kwame Mbalia always wanted to write stories with characters like the ones he grew up reading, but “in a more modern and fantastical way.”

“It’s a further reimagining of science-fiction and fantasy, with people I rarely got to see in it as a child,” said Mbalia, now 35.

That includes Anansi , a West African god who takes the shape of a spider, and John Henry , an African American folk hero.

Mbalia is a full-time pharmaceutical metrology technician, but has been writing since he was a child. And he has translated his writing side hustle into a two-book deal with six figures , according to Publishers Weekly.

His debut novel, “ Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky ,” will be published Oct. 15 by Rick Riordan Presents, a new Disney-Hyperion imprint.
