One American Idol alum got a second chance at winning big when he tried his hand at another competition of sorts, but, unfortunately, the grand prize remained out of reach.
Shayne Cowell , from Reno, Nevada, auditioned for the long-running singing competition series during one of its early seasons, reuniting with its host, Ryan Seacrest , some twenty years later on the popular game show Wheel of Fortune .
While he had better luck at the latter (Cowell can generally only be heard singing in the shower or at karaoke nowadays, for which Seacrest playfully said, "I blame the judges for everything," earlier in the episode), Cowell missed out on the grand prize when he fumbled his final puzzle.
After racking up a cool $29,148, making him the evening's winner, he got to try his hand at the bonus round, where additional money and a trip abroad were on the line.
He got 10 seconds to guess the phrase, “____ _ _light,” correctly identifying the last two words as “a flight” immediately. Unfortunately, despite multiple good guesses, like “pick a flight” and “take a flight,” he was not able to get the correct first word: “Book.”
“You were so close to it,” Seacrest lamented as the correct letters began to appear, showing him his missed opportunity for another $45,000 and a trip to Finland.
“You are good at Wheel of Fortune ,” Seacrest commended during the episode, with Cowell admitting, “You never think you're gonna do this good until you actually get here and it happens.”
Some viewers agreed, with one commenting on the show's official YouTube page, "I was screaming at the tv for first word BOOK!!!!!"
So far, the post-game grand prize has eluded every player's hands this week, with fans desperately hoping that someone pulls through before it ends.
