And Bloom is having a moment. In 2018, she booked her first lead role in the Martin Scorsese-executive produced drama Port Authority , which premiered at Cannes the following year, the actress making history as the first trans woman of color to debut a film at the festival. Walking the French Riviera's most revered red carpet, Bloom remembers feeling like she was in a fairy tale, one she never would have imagined for herself as a child. She also remembers it was raining. "And it was a full moon."
That Port Authority is finally in theaters, as Bloom is appearing in the final season of Pose and posing for a historic spread in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue , and that it's all releasing into the world now, bookended by Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Pride ? "Well, since you put it like that," Bloom grins, flipping her long hair over a bare shoulder. That has to be a sign of something.
"The world is saying, 'Hey, pay attention. This is what the future looks like,'" she says, leaning toward the camera. In a simple tank top and choker, lit by a nearby window, the future looks like -- objectively -- the most gorgeous person I have ever Zoomed with. "I think it's just a new idea, a new message. That's what I do, is I walk into rooms and I make people think differently. The music is changing, and this is what it sounds like."
As with most stars who seem to materialize overnight, Bloom has been, as she puts it, "out for a while." You just needed to know where to look. At 17, she took the Greyhound from Chicago to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York, not knowing anyone in the city and with nowhere to stay. In time, she found her way to the ballroom scene and the iconic House of Miyake-Mugler, becoming a Mother and making a name for herself in the face category.
"This movie has a message that was missing in the world for quite some time now: Love and how infectious it is and how intersectional it is. I think it's something that will just be relevant forever," Bloom says. "And it's going to be here forever. I think [ Port Authority ] will be one of those pieces that will stick with people and remind people what's true and what's honest in the world and what's true and honest in the world is love."
"My agent was like, 'I gotta tell you something.' I'm like, 'What?' He's like, 'Girl, nobody wants you. You ain't gonna get no work. Only one person would work with you. That's all I got. I got one person.' I was like, 'Who is it?' And he said, ' Sports Illustrated .'" She pauses for effect, her hands to her head. "And I just clutched my pearls. It was just music to my ears. I immediately heard opera music in the background, like, You have arrived, you belong here. This is your moment. This is what you were born to do ."
As with everything she does, Bloom considered how the moment could be bigger than herself. "No matter where I go, no matter what I do, no matter what room I go into, my community is there right with me," she says. The Swimsuit Issue is representation on an international scale, showcasing the beauty of trans bodies in the pages of one of the publishing world's last true tentpoles. "And MJ [Day], the editor-in-chief of the magazine, saying, 'If people don't like it, they can go somewhere else, that's all I needed to hear.'"
Now that she's arrived, the sky -- the moon, the furthest reaches of the solar system -- is the limit. "I want to do a Star Wars . I want to do Matrix . I want to play Pocahontas or Cleopatra and maybe even a Bond girl, like, who knows," Bloom rattles off. "I just want to do it all. I never want to limit myself. I want to be open to it all, but also not just be open but have purpose with everything."
The double-edged sword of making history is that while being the first is cause for celebration, it means those opportunities haven't been available or weren't made available before, especially for a trans woman of color hustling for herself and her community. "For me, it's, why is it taking so long? Why is it not fair? Why do we have to prove ourselves? Why can't we just honestly exist?" Bloom says. "My existence is very real. This is how I was born. I cannot hide who I am."
Victor Glemaud Resort 2022
For his resort collection, titled "American Beauty," he tapped Leyna Bloom as his muse — the actress, activist, dancer and model who in March became Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue's first trans model of color. "When we were shooting [the look book], I thought we needed to call this 'American Beauty' because that's what this is," Glemaud said of his inclusive vision.
No schlump or shapeless sweaters here: Glemaud's brand is about strength and sensuality. A sexy winter-white rib turtleneck minidress with elongated cuffs; a red silk cashmere halter bra top and side-slit tube skirt set, and a cropped camel cable knit polo and matching skirt with black piping were made for easing back into dressing to impress without sacrificing softness.
"It's this idea of taking American sportswear elements and putting it into knitwear, taking the camel of Claire McCardell, the pattern of Stephen Burrows, the red of Halston…and putting it into knitwear with a sensual drape," he said. An extra dose of chic? Snoods. "It's an accessory you wear under your jacket, with a sweatshirt…playing with it in different ways," he said.
Adding a distinct athleticism were Glemaud's signature Vs as a cable appliqué graphic on top of sweaters, and side stripes on pants and skirts. (He's got another collaboration with Fitbit coming up, and would seem a great candidate for a tie-up with an activewear brand like Lululemon, too.)
Glemaud is looking forward to September, when he'll be showing on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. "I have a whole idea about how to commemorate that.…I grew up in Queens, this is my city, I'm thrilled when there is more energy than not," he said of the buzz that is building for in-person shows this fall. "It always helps when there are more people, it helps in terms of sales and visibility."

Ex-Jets QB Sam Darnold hangs with Olivia Culpo, Christian McCaffrey
Olivia Culpo and boyfriend Christian McCaffrey have added a former New York Jets quarterback to their social circle.
Over the weekend, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, 29, posted a series of snaps from her evening out, tagging running back McCaffrey and his new Carolina Panthers teammate, Sam Darnold, in the shots.
McCaffrey turned 25 on Monday, June 7, while Darnold celebrated his 24th birthday on Friday, June 4.
Darnold, the third overall pick by the Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft, was traded to the Panthers in April. Later that month, New York selected quarterback Zach Wilson with the No. 2 pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Darnold will face his former team in Week 1 when the Panthers kick off the 2021 NFL season in September.
As for Culpo, who has been dating McCaffrey for nearly two years, she’s already made it clear the Panthers’ opener will be somewhat of a family problem .
In May, Culpo joked with younger sister Sophia — currently dating Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios — after the season schedule was released.
“Uhhhh can we still sit together @oliviaculpo?” Sophia posted to Instagram at the time.
Culpo later replied, “Since Braxton and Christian are competing, I challenge you to a thumb war @sophiaculpo.”

A new, ocean-view Crystal Cove mansion has come to the market as the priciest residence listed in Orange County.
The 15,500-square-foot, seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom house, completed this year, is for sale at just under $70 million.
Initially, he intended it as his residence. But with his children grown and frequent business travel, the house no longer fit his family.
The front door opens on a spacious foyer with two staircases and a custom stained-glass dome designed in collaboration with Judson Studios , the oldest family-run stained glass studio in the United States founded in 1897. Highlights of the dome, called “The Eye of the Phoenix,” include a Swarovski crystal-encrusted “eye” and gold-infused hanging pendants.
Sara Sampaio dons denim shorts and blue blazer over plunging tank top for lunch date in Malibu |
But on Saturday Sara Sampaio put her busy schedule on the back burner to enjoy lunch at the celebrity-friendly restaurant Nobu in Malibu with a male pal.
For her lunch date, the Portuguese beauty, 29, opted for casual-cool in the fashion department when she stepped out in cutoff blue denim shorts and a blue blazer.
The 5ft8in cover girl flashed a confident smile as she made her way out to her parked vehicle for a quick chat with her guy friend.
Wearing white sneakers and her phone in hand, Sampaio laughed out loud while they made small talk before heading inside the restaurant.
She rounded out her ensemble with a pair of stylish sunglasses, as the temperature hovered around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and by pulling her long raven tresses back into a back bun.

Jessica Gomes On Why She's Never Felt More Empowered to Put Herself Out There
Jessica Gomes is full of energy. Even after a full five hours of non-stop posing, jumping and juggling heavy fitness props at our Sydney shoot, she's still buzzing: chatting to the crew, offering to take more shots. It's clear she's totally at home in front of a camera but, after a decade as one of Australia's most successful models, you'd expect no less.
Not only has the model, actor and all-round legend worked with brands like Garnier, Victoria's Secret and DKNY, she was a David Jones Ambassador and famously appeared in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue eight times. Oh, and she's also acted alongside Hollywood heavyweights Bruce Willis and Owen Wilson.
Yet it hasn't always been sunshine and roses Down Under. Gomes was compelled to speak up about her own experiences with racism in a powerful Instagram post in March.
"I mean, I've been talking about racism for a really long time. I was actually quite scared to do that post though because I've never shown myself so vulnerable in that way before. But I felt like I needed to for my mum, for my ancestors. To see what was going on with the elderly in the Asian community here and overseas really broke my heart, because I've seen my mother going through her own racism experiences when I was little in Perth, and I saw the way it affected her. So for me, I felt it was my time to be able to stand up for my mum and my family. To call out the things that I've seen and to really voice my thoughts. And it was really incredible to feel the love and to see how people have understanding and empathy. I'm glad I posted that; it was a way of healing, of talking about things and expressing my feelings."

Emily Ratajkowski All Birthday Vibes With 'Dream Vacation Partner' - The Inquisitr
Model, actress and entrepreneur Emily Ratajkowski celebrated her birthday eve on Instagram with an endearing family post. The new-mommy , who turns 30 on June 7, updated her page with four photos of herself and baby Sly on vacation in a sun-kissed setting.
While the supermodel's husband, film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, also made an appearance in one of the pics, it's safe to assume she was talking about her newborn. Scroll through to see Emily's pre-birthday snaps!
Photographed on a sunny deck, the Vogue model cradled her son as she enjoyed a peaceful day out. While two of the photos looked a bit more put-together, the rest appeared to be candid shots that captured her with messy hair and in unposed angles.
The entire family wore matching swimwear, sporting Inamorata apparel in a vibrant orange and sky-blue colors. Emily displayed her fit post-baby figure in a printed two-piece bikini, which featured dramatically elongated strings that wrapped around her midsection a number of time.
Meanwhile, baby Sly was clad in matching shorts. Even proud dad Sebastian rocked coordinating swim trunks. Keep going for the pics!
The upload struck a chord with her numerous Instagram followers, reeling in close to 950,000 likes in under two hours. The comments were turned off for the post, otherwise Emily would have surely been flooded with tons of compliments.
The proud mama may have dubbed her boy a "dream vacation partner" on this occasion but another post referenced baby Sly as Emily's "brunch buddy." A May 15 update that portrayed her at an eatery showed the doting mother gazing down lovingly at the newborn in her arms while sitting with a glass of orange juice.
Emily welcomed her first child on March 8, breaking the news on Instagram with a tender breastfeeding photo that clocked in almost 3.8 million likes.
When she's not doting on her bundle of joy, the Gone Girl actress, who famously starred in Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Maroon 5's "Love Somebody," is busy promoting her swimwear brand.
