Now we don't mean scaling a building or jumping from a height, we are actually talking about hemlines.
We have spent too long in leggings and tracksuits and it is only natural that we are craving some sartorial excitement.
The idea behind skirt length theory is that shorter skirts have a tendency to appear in times when consumer confidence and excitement are high. In contrast, the theory says long skirts are worn more in times of fear and general gloom.
Just last week, Rihanna was seen sporting a white cutout micro miniskirt by London-based designer Maximilian.
Meanwhile, Y2K fashion is an adored aesthetic for those born after 1997 and micro miniskirts are the pinnacle of the craze. At times, TikTok almost feels like a shrine to the mini-movement.
Brands such as I Am Gia are championing the trend with gusto and as we hit high summer, expect to see more and more micro minis on your social media feeds.
Much of the hesitation around micro minis is down to fear. Whether that is anxiety about showing too much skin or concern for an unexpected wardrobe mishap.
There is most certainly a basis for the unease, but like every trend, you can make it work for you.
Wear with an oversized shirt or t-shirt on top and pair with an oversized blazer for a sophisticated yet edgy look.
A wardrobe fit for a new era
While society is returning to normal, our wardrobes are not. The past year has left its mark on fashion, perhaps permanently. Below, FashionUnited takes a look at the most current trends and ways for dressing to mark a new era.
Due to the comfort we are still used to from the past year, there has been a shift in tailoring, especially that of pants. We are continuing to see pants in relaxed silhouettes, comfortable fabrics and forgiving waistlines. Wear wide pants with an oversized blazer to stay comfortable but chic at the office. Opt for a relaxed look from brands such as Momoni and Vanessa Bruno.
This year, we are yearning for positivity and optimism. We are rediscovering the joys of dressing up with the playful fashion of the season. Cheerfulness can be seen in blouses and trousers that come in funky prints, dresses in neon hues and in whimsical accessories. Pick a dress in a bold floral print and pair it with a statement bag and a pair of chunky sandals. Don't be afraid to express yourself exactly as much as you want to. Brands such as Isabel Marant and Marni will deliver the feel-good vibes this season, without restrictions.
A perhaps surprising trend of this year is the return of the long necklace. After years of short necklaces in dainty styles, long necklaces are a welcome addition to this year's jewellery trends. Opt for one with a statement pendant or choose the longer version of a pearl necklace, both options are equally as trendy. Check out the new collections of brands like Fendi and ChloƩ to find your next favorite.

This Week In Illinois History: All-American Girls Professional Baseball (May 30, 1943)
Seventy-Eight years ago, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League had its first day of league play. The women's league was founded, in part, because most of the Major League Baseball players were fighting in World War II. Baseball executives had to find a new way to maintain revenue and keep people interested in the sport.
The league was the brainchild of Philip K. Wrigley , owner of the Chicago Cubs, whose father had founded the William Wrigley Jr. chewing gum company . Major League Baseball owners recruited women from several amateur women's softball leagues throughout the Midwest. Of the 200 women invited to try out at Chicago's Wrigley Field, 60 were chosen for league play. They were outfitted in the now-iconic mini-skirt uniform. They also had to follow strict rules of etiquette, which dictated how they dressed and wore their hair and makeup off-field.
The league lasted from 1943 to 1956. The Rockford Peaches won the league championship a record-setting four times. The National Baseball Hall of Fame put up a permanent exhibit dedicated to the league in 1988. In 1992, Penny Marshall's film, A League of Their Own , told a fictionalized story of the Rockford Peaches. Rockford's Beyer Stadium , where the Rockford Peaches played their home games, was rebuilt and dedicated to the Peaches in 2010.
A Rockford Peach turned 90 Friday -- and her family and fans are throwing her a drive-thru surprise party, in keeping with stay-at-home guidelines, of course.
75 years ago this week, the women of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League put on their skirts and cleats and trotted out onto four Midwestern ball fields for the first time. Now some of those players are in Rockford to celebrate their history and help push women's baseball into the future.
Back in 1943, chewing-gum magnate P.K. Wrigley decided that America needed more baseball to keep spirits up during World War II. Since the "boys" were away fighting, he called on the "girls" to do the patriotic thing and entertain the Home Front. And, boy, did they!
The International Women's Baseball Center dedicated its first brick-and-mortar site over the weekend.
The nonprofit promotes women's baseball and works to preserve its history, and its physical location has particular significance. It's across the street from Beyer Stadium, former home of the Rockford Peaches. This World War II era-team was immortalized in the 1992 film "A League of Their Own."

Minnie Dlamini-Jones, Dineo Langa and more: May's celeb fashion hits and misses
The end of May is upon us, and it is time to round up our contenders for the best and worst dressed celebs of the month.
As the weather turned colder, some A-listers took the opportunity to show off the stunning jerseys and jackets in their wardrobes. Others dug out bedazzled gowns for formal events.
The sheer effortlessness of the TV personality's luxe monochrome garb has us feeling weak at the knees, and pining for a private jet and champagne of our own. The gold chain and sunglasses elevate an otherwise simple, well-executed winter look. Kudos.
The model looks badass and beautiful here, rocking Doc Martens-style combat boots, a delicate Louis Vuitton shoulder bag, big shades and a playful printed T-shirt. We're all for taking a page out of her book and enjoying the last of the sun in style, combining heavy, masculine components with a bit of feminine finesse.
SA's Miss Universe hopeful Natasha Joubert made a dazzling impression on stage during the Miss Universe Preliminary Competition in this velvety, ornate retro pinup look, reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit and silver screen film stars.
Pageants are a world of their own, and while we wouldn't necessarily want to see this look on a red carpet, Joubert cast a stunning silhouette and looked immaculate in this Jolache Couture creation.
A sort of hybrid-cross between a 1980s-style red flamenco skirt and one of those bottom-heavy wedding dresses, this gown was horrible to behold and should be broken down and reconstituted as curtains — or something — asap.
The talented Homeground presenter looks absolutely beautiful in this picture despite her outfit's many shortcomings. The odd combination of colours in that shimmery print aren't doing her any favours, while the length of that mini skirt combined with the high pumps she's wearing seems a little too much like spring attire to make sense with the long sleeves on the dress.
The show-stopping sheer and sparkly creation that actress and influencer Thuli Phongolo wore for this year's Saftas is definitely polarising: you'll either love the nude illusion that culminates in a heavy skirt of black feathers or, like us, you'll find the effect a bit disjointed and dated. Phongolo always looks stunning, but the fact is this has been done before and done better.
Gundam Seed Lacus Figure From Bandai Requires Assembly First
Bandai Spirits will release a figure of Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed to go with the upcoming Gundam Seed renaissance. The Lacus Clyne figure will come with Pink-chan, which is the small Haro that Lacus received from Athrun. The figure will come out in August 2021 and will cost 3520 JPY, which is approximately $32.05.
The figure will come with three faces. She has a normal expression, a smile, and a slightly troubled frown. Bandai used water slide decals for the smile and the frown, and Lacus's normal expression uses pad printing. Since she is considered a plastic model, she requires assembly before you can display her. The Lacus Clyne figure is poseable and comes with hand parts that allow her to hold onto her Haro. In addition, there is a mini-skirt version of Lacus that is an original to the figure. It is not based on any outfit that she wears in the show.
Slay In Stripes: Ananya Panday Loves Stripes: Her Outfits Are Your Call To Go Shopping For
The actress is also spotted wearing it most of the time and she just rocks the outfit by giving hot poses. Ananya Panday was seen wearing a blue and white striped crop top with a mini skirt and was looking fantastic in that outfit. She wore an orange and white striped top with orange pants on it. The actress was also regarded as wearing a striped pantsuit and was looking astonishing in that outfit.
The Diva wore a striped blue and white mini skirt with a white slip top and was looking damn hot in that outfit. The actress was looking too cute in her red striped sweatshirt and nailed the outfit perfectly. The actress was also observed wearing a striped shirt and was looking superb. She just looks mind-blowing in all her striped outfits and slays it perfectly.
