My Body Got Me Through the Pandemic. It Doesn’t Need to Be Bikini Ready | Vogue

If I try really hard, I can just barely remember the days when summer meant abundance: fresh peaches dripping with juice, lobster rolls in warm, buttery soft buns, Mister Softee cones melting in the heat during long, lazy afternoons spent sunbathing on stoops around New York City. As I got older, though, I learned to associate summer with the bodily asceticism so common to teenage girls, pinching the excess skin of my thighs and gnawing on ice while everyone else ate Popsicles, hoping that one fewer serving of dessert or one more turn on the elliptical would make me into the kind of string-bikini-clad beach babe that was everyone's June-through-August fantasy.

Intellectually, I know there's nothing wrong with my new body, just like there was nothing wrong with my old one. It was, after all, quarantine weight gain that made me eligible to get vaccinated based on my BMI , and I'm hardly the only person who's undergone body changes or experienced a flare-up in disordered-eating mentality since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm committed enough to the no-diets principle of my own eating-disorder recovery to resist the temptation to chew ice and exercise obsessively again, but that doesn't mean I'm deliriously happy with the way I look 24/7, no matter how many defiant crop-top pics I post to Instagram.

For years, I've been telling myself over and over that I deserve to enjoy summer no matter what size I am, but this year, I'm acutely aware of what my body has given me outside of aesthetic appearance. Yes, I gained weight this year, but I also learned to deliver heavy bags of groceries to my neighbors, to run a mile without stopping for the sheer pleasure of it, and to finally, joyfully wrap my arms around my newly vaccinated friends. Are those physical achievements less worthy because I wasn't thin for them? In a year so indelibly marked by loss, am I really going to keep a T-shirt on over my swimsuit at the beach when I could be dipping every inch of my body in the cold water alongside my friends, exulting in the sheer bracing joy of being together?

When I really start to get stressed out about the impending summer season and the body anxiety it brings up, I think of what's commonly referred to as the pool-party episode of the Hulu series Shrill , in which protagonist Annie (Aidy Bryant) attends a poolside gathering specifically for fat women. Written by Samantha Irby and directed by Shaka King, the episode beautifully chronicles Annie's growing comfort in her own skin as she surrounds herself with people of all body shapes and sizes who have shown up for the express purpose of having fun; it's clear how badly Annie wants what they have, and it's genuinely beautiful to watch her set out on the process of finding it.

I may never be totally comfortable looking at pictures of myself in a bikini, and that's okay; nobody feels good about their bodies all the time, not even Sports Illustrated cover models. What I want for myself and everyone else in a physical form that doesn't fit the normative mold, though, is the freedom to celebrate our presence in the world and the wisdom to understand how hard our bodies work every day to keep us going. Some days, I honor that hard-working body with a kale smoothie and a long run; other days, I honor it with an equally long nap and a trip to Fort Greene Park for one of the Mister Softee cones of my youth. The ice cream tastes as chalky sweet as it did when I was a kid, and I feel good eating it in the warmth of the sun, and right now, that's enough.

Lindsay Arnold's Bikini Pic Shows Off Her 'Favorite' Body Part

"I would never and have never Photoshopped any part of my body and wanted a dedicated post to my beautiful scar that I truly love so much," she wrote before an all caps declaration that women's bodies are incredible.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Khloé Kardashian (@khloekardashian) Khloé Kardashian is speaking out after an unauthorized photograph of her in a bikini recently made the rounds on social media. The photo was apparently taken over the weekend as the reality star celebrated Easter with her family, and after it went viral, Kardashian and her legal team reportedly attempted to scrub the image from the internet and stop it from being shared.

Khloe Kardashian didn't want anyone to see this photo. What this says about today's unattainable beauty standards and the pressure to look flawless.

The youngest Kardashian sister spoke out about the "impossible standards" that society holds her to, while many claimed that she's created them.

Sommer Ray Chows Massive KFC In Minuscule Bikini - The Inquisitr

Sommer Ray is plowing her way through a massive KFC order and she's doing it in tiny swimwear. The 24-year-old fitness model and social media sensation made it binge central for her 26.1 million Instagram followers today, posting very real footage of herself ingesting calories from the popular fried chicken chain and showing off her bikini body at the same time. Sommer, last year ordering both Chick-Fil-A and In-N-Out in the same day, was proving that some things never change. Check it out below.

Today was all about the food. Sommer was seen in a super-tiny and thong red bikini at an outdoor bar and with a gal pal. The blonde, also wearing a black baseball cap from her Sommer Ray's Shop brand, was filmed plowing through corn on the cob, also surrounded by giant buckets of KFC.

After working her way through the corn, Sommer then destroyed the fried chicken, opening wide with a giant piece and even reaching into more of the paper bags for her next bite. The video clocked over 100,000 views in under an hour, with Sommer writing: "Thriving," also telling fans to "get your SR hat @shopsommerray."

Sommer last year complained she was "slacking" in the diet and exercise department. The burger lover does not, however, seem to see calories sticking to her waistline. See more photos after the video.

Sommer has snacked on Ruffles in bubblegum-pink bikinis. She also made early pandemic headlines for revealing she was at her "happiest" eating only Lucky Charms cereal three times a day and for two days straight. The workout queen is, however, big-time burning it off, with recent videos seeing Ray promote resistance bands from her clothing and swim line.

"Promise this isn't the only workout i do guys hahahha but it's a good one to show off the @shopsommerray booty bandzzz," she wrote to caption a beach workout. See it below.

Sommer has now clocked over 4 million views to the below video, one that sees her continuing to use Instagram to her best advantage. She's even joked about the way she promotes her merch, with a fake Louis Vuitton purse grab this year.

"Just a random series of pics of me fake trying to find something in my bag to look cute lol but guyyssss the presidents' day sale on," Sommer wrote back in February.

How Top Models Stay Bikini Ready Year Round

With lockdowns lifting and summer just around the corner, we're all feeling like it's crunch time to get back in shape.

The world's top models are no exception. Whether they are sticking to strict food regiments or working up a sweat on the regular, these famous faces are going into overdrive to make sure their beach bodies are on point.

'SHE'S ALMOST UNRECOGNIZABLE': FRIENDS THINK JULIANNE HOUGH'S POST-DIVORCE MAKEOVER HAS GONE TOO FAR, SAYS INSIDER

Scroll through the gallery below to see how your favorite models make sure they are bikini ready year round below.

Consistency is key for the former Miss Universe , who breaks a sweat every day, alternating between running, hiking and boxing, as well as Pilates and FlyBarre classes. “I try to stay active as much as I can,” the 28-year-old has said, “so I don’t wake up one day and realize it’s been two weeks and I haven’t worked out.”

While the Brazilian beauty maintains her fitness regimen all year round, she knows how to take things up a notch when necessary. " Two months before (a big runway) show, I try to workout every single day," Ribeiro, 30, explained. "I do dancing, I do boxing, I do pilates," she added. "I try to get a mix of everything, which helps keep it exciting."

No pain, no gain is Richie’s motto. The grueling sweat sessions she posts on Instagram prove it: Besides grooving along to the Sculpt Society’s dance cardio classes, the 22-year-old is often seen doing full-body workouts at L.A.’s Dog Pound gym, going through circuit training moves like reverse lunges, bent-over rows with resistance bands and booty-boosting weighted donkey kicks.

The stunning swimwear model says there is no "magic pill" when it comes to getting beach ready. She eats clean and relies on yoga, kickboxing and positive affirmations. "I talk to my body," Graham shared. "I've even got buck naked and been like, 'Hey thighs, you guys are so sexy, I can't stop rubbing you.'" Whatever works.

Herrington, 27, is all about quality over quantity. “I’d much rather do a short and intense workout that keeps me on my toes,” the SI Swimsuit cover girl noted. That means 15-minute running intervals and reps of her favorite move: burpees! “You can do them anywhere and it works out your arms, legs, butt and abs.”

'Call Her Daddy' Alexandra Cooper All Stringy Bikini With Beer - The Inquisitr

Host of sex podcast "Call Her Daddy" Alexandra Cooper is hanging around in a stringy bikini and with beer that isn't visible. The 26-year-old blonde, last year massively in the news for a pay scandal with Barstool Sports, has been sticking to Hot Girl Summer vibes for her 2.1 million Instagram followers, with a post  seeing her soaking up rays poolside and shouting out her "daddies." Alexandra, who has just recently confirmed she's dating someone , kept the mystery up without her man. Fine by fans.

Less about the listening and more about giving her fans something to look at, Cooper posted right from the side of a pool, plonked on a striped blue-and-white towel, and very much suns out buns out. The podcast sensation, lying on her front, was in a super-tiny, strung, and brown bikini with a cheeks-out finish, scrunching up her face and going goofy under a hat.

Technically alone, but suggesting she had alcohol as company in her caption, Alexandra referred to a beer, but it was hide and seek as fans saw nothing in the way of one. "U can't see my beer but cheers daddies," the star wrote, snagging a total 425,000 likes. Leaving the thumbs-up, was Kelly Ripa's 19-year-old daughter Lola Grace Consuelos.

Bringing more boyfriend talk (and no pants), was a selfie following the bikini one, with Cooper writing: "Good morning go listen to call her daddy this week yea I got no pants but I do have a boyfriend 😳."

"Call Her Daddy," founded with Sofia Franklyn in 2018, continues to be heavily promoted on Alexandra's Instagram.

The pandemic seems to have ear-marked the era of podcasts, in particular, celebrity ones. For MTV fans, there are podcasts from "Teen Mom" face Kailyn Lowry. Former First Lady Michelle Obama has hers, with stars including Jonathan Van Ness and Maria Menounos all hosting theirs.

Alexandra, meanwhile, is racking up a celebrity fanbase on Instagram. Her account is kept tabs on by stars including former Disney face Demi Lovato, Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn, plus YouTuber Emma Chamberlain among others.
