Coldplay will return with their first new music since 2019 next Friday with “Higher Power,” a new single produced by Max Martin — the most successful songwriter-producer of the last 25 years.
It would not be unreasonable to expect that an album will be following sometime in the coming months as well.
The group posted on social media: “Higher Power is a song that arrived on a little keyboard and a bathroom sink at the start of 2020. It was produced by Max Martin who is a true wonder of the universe. It’s out on Friday 7 May. Love c, g, w & j.”
The announcement confirms fan rumors that have circulated since last week, when cryptic billboards around the world pointed to a mysterious website called alienradio.fm.Fans managed to decipher the letter-like symbols to uncover the song title and release date.
It was also a cost-effective one. Consider that the band was able to sidestep an expensive photo shoot by superimposing themselves onto an image owned by one of its members; that its letter-writing campaign only required the price of postage; or that its classified spent was a mere $25,000, Variety has learned. Even its music video consists of grainy footage shot by hand of frontman Chris Martin performing new song “Orphans” in various New York City locales and in full view of unsuspecting pedestrians. In addition, a sniping campaign targeted 30 cities in 21 countries and five continents.
Coldplay appear to tease new album called Alien Radio | Entertainment | elpasoinc.com
Coldplay fans have been busy decoding a set of clues left on a website called Alien Radio FM and appear to have worked out that a new single called 'Higher Power' is on its way next week.
The landing page features a spinning globe that transitions into a star, and, upon moving the cursor, messages in different languages can be heard.
There are also some mystery symbols and fans have worked out that a new single called 'Higher Power' is seemingly due to be released on May 7.
The clues come after it was reported that the band had filed documents to trademark 'Music Of The Spheres'.
A source had said in February: "Chris and Co have been dropping hints for a while but now it's finally getting off the ground. They've been busy working on new music during lockdown and it'll all culminate in the record, which has the working title 'Music Of The Spheres'. Chris and the group have now officially trademarked the name ready for an album. It also includes merchandise and everything they'd need for a tor. It's a really exciting time for everyone. There's no doubt this project will also go straight to the top spot."
He explained: "We're not touring and we're not really talking and not doing anything normal. This album feels like we have to just release it into the world and let it fend for itself. Because a lot of these songs came from a place I don't really understand, and other reasons too, it's just not tourable yet. We're trying to wait to tor until we can figure out the environmental side of things.
"I stayed in a real cocoon cos I feel super-focused and super on a mission of some sort. This time I'm not even aware of any reaction or any result ... nothing, cos I feel a very strong calling to be doing a certain thing. It's always been there but maybe because the way the world is it's been bubbling extra hard, extra-strong, like, 'OK, this is what we're supposed to be doing, let's head this way.'"
Coldplay tease new project in mysterious new clip
Coldplay have appeared to tease a new project entitled 'Alien Radio' in a mysterious social media clip, which also suggests that the band will release new song Higher Power on May 7th.
A brief clip shared on social media sees the band presenting a series of mysterious purple symbols over a static radio signal, with fans then invited to visit AlienRadio.FM for more details, reports the NME .
Once redirected to the website, fans then see a rotating globe in the centre of the screen before the cursor changes into a four-pointed star.
According to the NME , by moving the cursor across the globe fans can gain access to a selection of multi-lingual messages which range from advertisements for satellite launches to excerpts from classic literature such as Sherlock Holmes story Adventure of the Dancing Men and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland .
Nothing has been confirmed about the cryptic teaser campaign, but Coldplay fans have been busy trying to decipher the message behind the mysterious imagery.
Fan account ColdplayXtra claims that the symbols can be decoded to hint at a new release from the band next month: COLDPLAY HIGHER POWER, MAY SEVEN.
A section of scrolling text on the top of the website also provides a phrase that many fans suspect to be lyrics to Higher Power .
Along with the cryptic online presence, the alien language has also been spotted on digital billboards in New York, London, Santiago, and Seoul.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Coldplay have been working on a new album called Music Of The Spheres during the pandemic.

Alien Radio: Tuning into Frequencies
The Alien Radio website is relatively sparse: after advancing through a screen where the outdoor advertisements flash by in rapid progression, the website shifts into a static-filled night’s sky with a minimalistic, rotating globe in the center of the screen. Visitors’ cursors are turned into a four-pointed star, and moving it across the page “tunes in” the frequency along both X- and Y-axes to reveal multi-lingual messages, with subjects ranging from the anatomy of baseballs and advertisements for the Scottish highlands for satellite launches to excerpts from Sherlock Holmes’ Adventure of the Dancing Men and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland .
The only area that stands out amidst the multilingual chatter: an area in the upper right corner of the screen near 95 MHz x 55 MHz, which triggers a series of tones and scrolling text at the bottom of the screen in what appears to be Baudot (International Teleprinter) code. This message, which the players have taken to calling “signal.svg”, is currently unsolved.
The Coldplay Connection: Deciphering Alien Texts
Around the same time, fans of the band Coldplay started to get followed by the Twitter account for Alien Radio FM , leading players to suspect that Alien Radio and the mysterious advertisements were connected to an upcoming release. When paired with the larger sample of alien text scrolling along the top of the Alien Radio website, players managed to decode the advertisements, which hint at a new release from the band: COLDPLAY HIGHER POWER MAY SEVEN.
Cold-Played This Game Before: Learning From a History of Musical Teasers
Alien Radio only launched a few days ago, so it’s too soon to tell whether a narrative will develop around who is sending these strange messages, why the website is picking up on global transmissions, or even if additional messages will help players complete the alien alphabet. But prior promotional campaigns from Coldplay can provide context for what’s to come, as this isn’t the band’s first time dabbling in alternate reality game-adjacent territory.
Weisman and Stewart continued to explore the intersection of music and ARGs with their later projects. For edoc laundry , the Founding Fathers were reimagined as members of rock band Poor Richard, with puzzles embedded in a clothing line unlocked the mystery of their breakup. Later, 42 Entertainment partnered with Nine Inch Nails to help launch the album and narrative world of Year Zero , featuring everything from USB drops to a secret concert.
Player communities can be found on the r/Coldplay subreddit as well as on Discord , with community progress tracked in a Google Doc .

Justin Bieber Sings 'Peaches' in Classroom on 'Tonight Show' | Billboard
Justin Bieber joined The Roots and Jimmy Fallon in the Tonight Show classroom on Monday night (Apr. 26) for a revamped run through his single "Peaches." Posted up at a toy piano, Bieber plunked out the song's longing melody as he opened the performance solo, dressed down in a grey sweatshirt and black knit cap.
As the camera panned out, JB took center square in the colorful Brady Bunch -like arrangement with the Roots and Fallon all arond him, banging on plastic buckets and cowbells and shaking a variety of percussion instruments. Ever the gentleman, Justin even stood down for Fallon to take over the second verse, letting him sing lead as the show's host jiggled a plastic peach shaker and harmonized with drummer Questlove.
A-Rod Posts Revenge Bod After Breakup With Jennifer Lopez
Alex Rodriguez is doing great! He's fine! And he wants you to know that he looks a little different now. Yesterday, apropos of nothing — definitely not related to his split with Jennifer Lopez earlier this month — Rodriguez posted a side-by-side on Instagram of himself in December 2020 and April 2021. The caption reads, "left the Dad-bod in 2020," which, in Breakup, translates to "Please, for the love of God, someone look at me."
Some key differences in the photos: December A-Rod is cheesing, wearing a cream sweatsuit and matching jacket. It is a peak quarantine 'fit. December A-Rod is the kind of guy you'd ask to watch your stuff at a café while you ran to the bathroom.
April A-Rod, however, is stoic, looking off-camera, and definitely had a conversation before the picture was taken that started with, "Should I undo one shirt button or two?"
It appears A-Rod has moved beyond the "grieving" stage of post-breakup behavior. Recall the Instagram Story in which he shared a Coldplay tribute to Lopez just days before public news of their split. In the 11-second clip, he pans over photos of the two of them together while "Fix You" plays in the background. (Also, in one frame, there's a picture of Jennifer Lopez and her Hustlers co-star Constance Wu next to a photo of Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland?? I NEED ANSWERS.) The video ends on "Jennifer + Alex" written in a heart in the sand as we hear "tears stream down your faaaace."
Well, looks like he's done crying. So expect to see A-Rod on a Raya profile near you this summer.
