Spring is usually the beginning of the music festival season — but things are different once again this year. The giant behemoth SXSW was online-only again this month. Coachella reportedly has been moved to 2022. No word yet on whether Lollapalooza is happening at all.
Still, many festival organizers hope that the vaccine rollout will make people comfortable enough to attend large gatherings this year — in a decidedly not socially distanced sort of way.
"It's gonna be a real festival," Estopinal says about Ubbi Dubbi, which presently is scheduled to take place April 24-25 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, 40 miles south of downtown Dallas — making it among the earliest music festivals set for this year. "You're going to be moving around, but you'll also have space if you don't feel comfortable," he adds.
Ubbi & Dubbi: Two words. The one's you've all been waiting to hear. Tubbi, will you do the hubonors? 👽
Tubbi: IT'S ON!!!!!!! 🚨 🚨 🚨
Updates and more details on our new Health Pass and safety guidelines will be coming soon. Masks up, hands in the air - let's do this! 😷 pic.twitter.com/CkD7WkquVL
To assure safety, Estopinal is promoting a reduced capacity, partnering with CLEAR for health-tracking services, and requiring masks. He plans to have masking reminders played over the PAs, and will ask artists to make similar announcements to the audience. But, he admits, with a crowd this size, enforcement will be a challenge. There'll be a portion of the audience who won't wear masks, he concedes, "but we're gonna try."
That's what worries Dr. Bijal Balasubramanian, epidemiologist and dean of the UTHealth School of Public Health in Dallas . Ubbi Dubbi likely will draw a younger crowd, with dancing, singing and drinking involved. "Those are the sort of things where it's much harder to get people to follow the rules after a little while," she says.
Texas recently opened vaccination up to all adults, as of March 29. Adelman says the level of risk involved with Ubbi Dubbi will depend on how many attendees will be vaccinated, come show time.

Yungblud goes 'offline' as he prepares new music for fans | People | scnow.com
The 'cotton candy' hitmaker has told fans he's having a brief break from social media so he can focus all his attention on completing his new tunes.
Alongside a series of snaps of himself sucking on a lollipop and in the studio, he wrote on Instagram: "i love you family. takin a week offline to lick lollipops n finish some of the new s***. stay up. stay positive. you're in my mind every minute of the f***** day. you're my blud and guts. forever, always and a couple hours after that. (sic)"
The new music updates comes after the 'Loner' rocker revealed in January that he had "nearly finished" an entire album in lockdown.
The 'Mars' hitmaker has been "mad-creative" amid the global health crisis with touring on hold and hinted it might not be too long before his fans get a follow-up to December's chart-topper, 'weird!'.
Yungblud - whose real name is Dom Harrison - released his debut album '21st Century Liability' back in 2018, and recently shared how he feels he's evolved over the last couple of years.
He said: "I don't have to hide behind an insecure anger like there was on my first album, '21st Century Liability'.
Meanwhile, Yungblud recently teamed up with KSI and Polo G on the hit 'Patience', which peaked at number three on the Official UK Chart.
And the 23-year-old star relished the experience of working with the former, who has transitioned from a YouTuber to a music star.
He said: "KSI is an artist who came into music from a non-traditional route. Something I relate to a lot!"

Vevo Music Videos Now Available in FreeWheel’s Strata Platform | Business Wire
As the composition of the traditional TV audience changes, media agencies are looking for creative ways to augment their linear TV buys to reach consumers across new endpoints. Vevo's scale enables agencies to expand their existing footprint, meaning advertisers can engage with approximately half of the U.S. population, including hard-to-reach audiences. Two-thirds of Vevo viewers, for example, are in the 18-49 age group, more than half of which identify themselves as light TV viewers.
"With at least 150 million Americans already watching Vevo each month, our presence in local markets is unmatched. Our viewership is set to grow even more as we expand our distribution network in OTT and CTV," said Nicholas Simonetti, director, U.S. local ad sales, Vevo. "Furthermore, this integration gives local teams a new opportunity to align themselves with premium, brand-safe content featuring the world's biggest celebrities. Harder-to-reach audiences, such as younger or multicultural audiences, find our content highly engaging, which helps boost brand recall."
"As younger viewers incorporate music videos into their overall viewing experience, brands are looking for premium publishers who can deliver these audiences across local footprints," said Jamie Donnenfeld, vice president, partnership solutions, FreeWheel. "By working with Vevo, FreeWheel is streamlining the local spot workflow for Strata agencies, while offering the ability to capture these younger audiences within unique, engaging music video content."
Strata is an end-to-end, cross-media campaign planning, activation, optimization and financial management tool trusted by more than 1,100 agencies and marketers. The platform allows media planners and buyers to seamlessly research, manage and execute their local TV and video campaigns against audience data, removing the tedious manual work previously done in the RFP process.
FreeWheel, A Comcast Company, empowers all segments of The New TV Ecosystem. We are structured to provide the full breadth of solutions the advertising industry needs to achieve their goals. We provide the technology, data enablement, and convergent marketplaces required to ensure buyers and sellers can transact across all screens, across all data types, and all sales channels, in order to ensure the ultimate goal – results for marketers.
Vevo has consistently evolved over the past decade to lead within today's ever-changing media landscape, embracing partnerships with a number of leading distribution platforms to deliver extraordinary content within ad-supported environments. Boise Music Festival postponed to summer 2022 | ktvb.com
BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Music Festival will be canceled for 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to throw a wrench in the music industry, a Boise radio station announced Monday.
Instead, the full-day festival will be postponed until summer of 2022, according to 103.5 KISS-FM, an affiliate of Townsquare Media, which puts on the event.
This is the second year in a row that the pandemic has scuttled plans for the Boise Music Festival. The 2020 event, scheduled for June, was also canceled amid concerns about safety.
Organizers for the event have struggled to get artists to commit to performing at an event that may or may not take place, he wrote, noting that gathering size caps remain in place. Pushing the large festival later in the year would have eliminated the possibility of having carnival rides and other attractions, according to the radio station.
"All of this said, while we're sad to share this news we do want to share the brighter side of the news as well," Mateo wrote. "Boise Music Festival WILL return, on June 25th, 2022!"
