Marquita Pring, who grew up in the Oneida County village of Clinton, posed in several bikinis for the magazine's upcoming 2021 Swimsuit edition alongside big names like Lais Ribeiro, Kate Bock, Josephine Skriver, Danielle Herrington, and former Miss Minnesota USA Haley Kalil. It's Pring's second time appearing in the annual publication after making her rookie debut last year.
"Marquita is a natural fit for our brand," editor MJ Day said in a statement . "She is effortless to photograph, and a pleasure to be around. She is smart, competent, established and possesses a hunger and dedication to changing the industry. Her voice is powerful, and it is an important one for the world to hear. She represents so many different types of women and we are incredibly lucky to be a part of her story."
Pring, 30, has been modeling since age 15, signing with IMG's curvy model devision in 2010. She's walked on the runway at fashion shows for Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Siriano and Tommy Hilfiger; posed for Vogue Italia; and appeared in advertisements for L'Oreal, Nordstrom and Levi Strauss & Co.
Pring told Redbook in 2017 that she gained confidence in her body when she played basketball at Clinton High School, about 45 miles east of Syracuse.
"Growing up, I was always the tall girl. Much bigger than my friends, I always felt awkward and self-conscious in my body," she wrote in the magazine. "I was occasionally teased for my size and the color of my skin, but those moments were rare, or maybe I've blocked them out of my memory. The one time in 6th grade that I will never forget, though, was when I was called a fat, hairy gorilla. That moment will forever burn, especially because it came from a supposed good friend."
"Through playing this sport, I realized how powerful and strong I was, how my body allowed me to be great at something," Pring wrote in Redbook. "The most pivotal moment came for me when I switched high schools and moved from rural Clinton to an inner-city school in Brooklyn. That's where I realized that my strength was sexy. Where I had grown up, being skinny was something to be admired. But here it was the opposite. Here, I realized that being skinny wasn't everything like I had been conditioned to believe. The guys and girls at my new school respected and even appreciated curves."
Pring switched schools her senior year of high school, when she moved to New York City. She said she planned to play college basketball after graduation, but gave it up when her modeling career started taking off.
"To me the term 'plus size' is completely outdated and just unnecessary," she told the newspaper last year. "I immediately think, 'Plus what? There's an average, normal size that we should all be and anything more than that needs to be called something different?' You're your size — and that's it."
Pring is also an outspoken activist for body positivity, according to the Post. She appeared in V Magazine's first curvy editorial in 2010 and later started a women's "curve" modeling collective, Alda, with Ashley Graham and four other models.

How Olivia Culpo Prepped Her Skin for 'Sports Illustrated Swimsuit'
Getting ready to grace the pages of Sport Illustrated Swimsuit obviously comes with a decent amount of preparation. And for Olivia Culpo , a returning cover star for the publication, that preparation obviously includes multiple visits to her esthetician, Toska Husted .
As it turns out, Culpo was so pleased with her in-office treatments, that she even has a follow up appointment on the books — this time with boyfriend Christian McCaffrey !
"They're going to have to [get the same thing], because he has to look good too," Husted jokes to Us Weekly in an exclusive interview.
But before deciding to bring her beau with her, Culpo attended two sessions solo to get her skin in tip top shape for the S ports Illustrated Swimsuit 2021 photo shoot.
The first appointment took place 2 weeks ahead of the shoot and was focused on clearing out congestion. "I did more of a deep cleansing treatment and some extractions, a peel — all the stuff you don't want to do right before a big event. You want to give the skin some time to come back from all of that," Husted tells Stylish .
Fast forward to 48 hours before the big day, and Culpo visited Husted at the Toska European Spa in North Carolina once again. This time, for the Toska Triple Lift, which is a sculpting and lifting treatment that takes about 90 minutes.
"I use a cocktail of serums and a micro current machine, which works out the facial muscles and lifts the skin," Husted says. The celebrity aesthetician, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez , Kim Kardashian and Mandy Moore , also gave Culpo a boost of oxygen and LED light therapy.
Of course, gadgets and gizmos are only half the battle. Having a top notch skincare routine is equally as important. And while Husted is still working on making sure Culpo washes her face "immediately" post-workout, she has successfully gotten her on-board with a Biologique Recherche regime.
One of her favorite products? Masque Vivant . "Vivant is a deep cleansing mask. A lot of people talk about it and say it smells horrible. But there's a little mind trick that we play. If I get her to looks at it before smelling it, she'll associate it with chocolate!"

Leyna Bloom Is First Trans Woman of Color in 'Sports Illustrated'
"When I was a little kid, being mixed race, I realized that people were being mean to me or giving me privilege based off things I had no control over. When I first started modeling, what I heard the most were, 'You're a woman, you're Black, you're trans and you're poor — you're at the bottom of the food chain,'" Bloom says in a behind-the-scenes video released on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 's Instagram. "Now people are telling me, 'You are a beautiful woman, you are a beautiful black woman and you're powerful trans woman."
The clip, which has since received support from the likes of Jasmine Sanders , Kelsey Merritt , Hayley Kalil and Camille Kostek , gives a glimpse into Bloom's bikinis and one-pieces for the photo shoot. Her looks range of plunging black bathing suits and rust-colored one-pieces to string bikinis with mesh coverups.
"The idea that Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has chosen me to be a part of this huge moment tells me that I deserve to be cherished and that what I represent as a woman should never be taken fro granted, regardless of my unique circumstances," Bloom says in a statement released on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 's Instagram page.
The model, who has previously graced the pages of Vogue India , continues: "I feel so lucky to be apart of something that is rooted in change and acceptance. SI Swimsuit supports my womanhood — It's not just about being beautiful but being beautiful with a powerful message. Being a part of that legacy is a gift to humanity of what we're creating now to protect our future."
The decision to include Bloom in the pages of the magazine was multi-faceted. It was history-making move for the publication, yes. But the publication's editor MJ Day says the casting means much more than that.
" Leyna is legendary in the world of activism, strikingly gorgeous and has an undeniable sense of self that shines through the minute she walks on set. Her story represents one grounded in resilience and we couldn't be more thrilled to help her tell it … We are honored to have her in this year's issue and understand the effect it will have on so many others. She joins our team, not because of what she represents but because of her beauty, commitment and desire to leave the world a better place."
SI Swimsuit model Camille Kostek talks blacking out with Rob Gronkowski after appearing on the
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and former cover girl Camille Kostek gets candid on appearing in the magazine's 2020 issue, which is currently in newsstands. The star gets candid on how she still gets nervous posing for the outlet, having boyfriend Rob Gronkowski for support, how she physically prepared for her highly talked-about photo shoot and why she initially didn't dream of becoming a model.
Camille Kostek is still grateful she made the 2019 cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit – and longtime boyfriend Rob Gronkowski continues to cheer her on.
The former Patriots cheerleader made her debut for the magazine back in 2018 as part of their first open casting call. The 29-year-old was a co-winner of the competition that year alongside Haley Kalil .
"I think it's really hard for me to even say the best part because I think it was just one of those moments where I had dreamed of it for so long," said Kostek during the latest episode of "10 Questions with Kyle Brandt" now on Spotify .
Gronkowski, a tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, told the outlet he was just as excited when he learned that Kostek made the cover.
"It was incredible," said the 31-year-old. "And I think I found out… right after my birthday. So it was like a double birthday. And she blacked out from it. She was sober. I blacked out many times, not sober."
"I realized I loved dancing for football and not reporting on football," Kostek explained. "So if anything, if I were to follow in the footsteps of Erin career-wise – I love watching her career on 'Dancing with the Stars,' being a dancer and loving the hosting job. That's like the best of both worlds to me. I love her. And then meeting her in person just solidified that. No wonder I had such a girl crush on her. She is even more beautiful on the inside."
ROB GRONKOWSKI'S GIRLFRIEND CAMILLE KOSTEK SHARES HOW THE COUPLE FIRST MET: 'IT'S KIND OF CRAZY'
Back in 2020, Kostek told Fox News it's been "super great" to have someone like Gronkowski support her throughout the star's journey with SI Swimsuit.
Woman launches campaign to become first Down's syndrome model featured in Sports Illustrated
A model from Minnesota hopes to become the first woman with Down's syndrome to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated – and inspire many in the process.
Mikayla Holmgren, 26, is taking the modelling world by storm. She has already made history after becoming the first contestant with Down's syndrome to appear in a Miss USA pageant and now, she's hoping to do it again by becoming the first model with Down's syndrome to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated's iconic swimsuit issue.
Mikayla's modelling career took off back in 2017 when she took part in the popular Miss USA pageant, where she took home both the Spirit of Miss USA and the Director's Awards. Now, she's ready to prove to the world that being diagnosed with Down's syndrome shouldn't stop anyone from reaching their dreams, as she has her sights set on another exciting milestone.
Mikayla posted her audition video onto her Instagram page sharing how inspired she is by the magazine, calling it "a champion in the diversity of beauty" before adding that "now is the time to include someone like me".
"All women deserve to be celebrated. We need awareness for those with special needs," she continues. "Everyone is talking about inclusion right now and one of the most underrepresented groups is people with special needs. I would love to be the beacon of hope for so many young girls who can relate to me."
Just last week, the publication continued breaking boundaries by featuring Leyna Bloom, the first trans woman of colour to model for Sports Illustrated.
Mikayla is still waiting to hear back from the publication regarding her audition, but says she has her "fingers crossed".
