A handful of major music festivals have announced that they plan to forge ahead with their events in 2021, and some are getting creative to ensure the music plays.
California’s Outside Lands, Tennessee’s Bonnaroo and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival have all postponed their festivals until the fall, when much of the country is expected to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
“As guidance on openings of public gatherings is shifting rapidly, the move to October allows us the time to work collectively to determine any new safety procedures necessary to implement during the festival,” Outside Lands said in a Thursday statement.

“Not everyone who can sing likes to do philanthropy. But there’s something in it that can be for everyone. There are a lot of people who might not sing, but they can be good at business. Or people in music, they like to teach and have a gift for teaching. And so Code Purple and my music and doing philanthropy in general with different nonprofits in the community has shown me that all of our different talents can come together and help each other.
He left the music business about five years ago to move back to Delaware, where he grew up. He first volunteered with Code Purple and then became its president in 2019.

Manuel F. Gonzalez, a postdoctoral researcher in the department of psychology at Baruch College, and John R. "Jack" Aiello, a professor in the department of psychology at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, published a paper in the Journal of Experimental Psychology in September 2019 on how performance is affected by music. The study has taken on additional relevance with so many people working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two men recruited 150 undergraduate students to participate individually in a lab experiment. The researchers first assessed the students' baseline cognitive abilities so they could rule out intelligence as an alternative explanation of their findings. Then they had the diverse group of students fill out surveys about boredom proneness, including their preferences for external stimulation.
