What I learned playing 30+ years’ worth of Jeopardy! video games | Ars Technica

Accordingly, Friday may also mark the end of an era for one of video gaming's most enduring franchises (and for Trebek as an enduring digital gaming personality rivaling football's John Madden). Since the first PC releases of Jeopardy! in 1987, there have been more than 40 distinct video game versions of the quiz show released across at least 27 different platforms (that includes "Sports Edition" spin-offs and the like).

It's rare for a single gaming brand to encompass so much of gaming's short history. That's especially true for a licensed brand that's not controlled by a single company—GameTek, Rare, Hasbro, Atari, Sony, THQ, and Ubisoft have all been attached to Jeopardy! games over the years.

What is Jackbox Games? Here's what you need to know - Business Insider

The company describes itself as the child of classic games like charades, specifically "the child who dropped out of college, then earned the family's respect by founding a jam company."

You don't have to be a gamer to understand how to play Jackbox and, like any party game, the games are as fun as the people you're playing them with.

Jackbox Games is a small studio from Chicago that started as a children's television production company called Learn Television in 1989.

Valve Posts Job Listing For Psychologists To Help Make Video Games

However, Valve seems keen on continuing its game development endeavors, as a recent psychologist job listing for the company suggests. The listing calls for psychologists to help " craft compelling gameplay experiences for future Valve titles ", along with work on other Valve projects such as Steam. The company wants someone who can conduct experiments analyzing gameplay hypotheses and design choices as well as do research into " compelling new hardware technologies.

It seems like the listing is a catch-all to get some psychologists on board at the company, with no specific project in mind – similar to what it did in early 2020 . The barrier of entry is high though, requiring a graduate degree in psychology along with advanced knowledge of statistics and experience in psychological research and consumer products/services development. The company would also prefer candidates to have proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, C++, and PHP.

PS5 A Major Catalyst For This Small Cap Video Game Stock; Could Xbox Be Next?

“Microsoft’s interest in these questions would suggest that they’re at least thinking about upgrading the next-gen controllers in the future, to line up with Sony’s offering in the current-generation,” writes IGN.

Haptic technology could be a major theme for video games going forward as it connects users to the games and makes a more interactive experience.

Immersion has hinted throughout 2020 that the new controller for the PlayStation 5 could lead to additional demand for its patents and products.

Among Us & Carrion Prove We Need More John Carpenter In Video Games

With its creepy, parasitic monster vibes set in space, Among Us feels like a sillier, more colorful version of John Carpenter's The Thing . Likewise, Carrion managed to take Carpenter-style body horror and incorporate it into a Metroidvania. The success of both of these games prove one thing: players need more John Carpenter in their video games.

While John Carpenter video games have been a mixed bag, 2002's The Thing was a decent entry that sold well enough to get a sequel before its studio went under, leaving the follow-up unfinished. In a lot of ways, Carrion is even better than The Thing video game, in terms of conveying the director's trademark tension and body horror elements.

GameStop Stock Can't Keep Defying the Reality in Videogames | Barron's

The bricks-and-mortar retailer known for a large collection of games, consoles, and preowned items has struggled in the past year even as game publishers reported major spikes in revenue and user engagement.

GameStop (ticker: GME) sales are forecast to drop 17% in the fiscal year that ends in January, after a 22% drop a year ago. Earnings have declined for four consecutive years, and analysts see them going deeply negative in the 2021 fiscal year that ends this month, with an adjusted loss of $1.86 a share. For now, Wall Street is counting on a rebound in the year ahead. That has helped push the stock up more than 300% in the last six months.
