Interview: Raven, the Acid Bath Princess of the Darkness

It's January 2, 2009. Two teenage girls, eyes ringed in black, stare deadpan to the camera. My Chemical Romance blasts in the background as they introduce themselves: Raven, the Acid Bath Princess of the Darkness, and Tara. They fill us in on their dislikes (preps, Davey Havok's new hair) and likes (Edward Cullen, Hot Topic) to kick off the new year, even though they advise us, "Crappy New Year. New years, new tears." And thus a meme was born.

What made you want to create the videos in the first place?
I wanted to have a career that involved comedy and/or comedy writing for a while. I had fallen in love with improv when I was, like, in seventh grade, I think. And even if it was never my main focus at the time, it was still something that was incredibly important to me.

FG girls hold off Coweta, boys fall; Hornets rebound with decisive win | Sports |

Hilldale's Rylan Nail, left, scores on Westville Daxton Hembree during Friday's game at the Fort Gibson Festival. The Hornets won 82-67.

FORT GIBSON — It was the kind of game that a team that's used to winning pretty handily needs every now and then.

And that's just what the Fort Gibson girls got Friday night as they had to dig deep into the bench and their psyche to hold off a determined Coweta team 44-37 in the finals of the Fort Gibson Festival at Harrison Field House.

Dickinson Recap, Season 2 Episode 3: 'The Only Ghost…'

Em checks back in with Sue to tell her that she went for a walk with Sam and that she's scared of being published. We are rehashing the same conversation Em and Sue have been having since the season began, and while this is all very realistic (I mean, we all have our obsessions and ruminate on them endlessly) it's also a little water-treading for my taste, especially as our season is supposed to be taking off, and anyway we know what happens re: Em publishing or not!

Candles secured, Em is dressed to mingle with the spirits in her white lacy nap dress with her hair all loose. Vinnie, Midsommar -flower-crowned, is ready, as are their fellow spirit-seekers: Jane and her sidekicks, all of whom are in that like, what if Little House on the Prairie were also kind of sexy by way of a Free People catalog aesthetic. Everyone takes off their shoes and, as Vinnie implores them, brings in good vibes only.

Sell/Buy/Date: why sex workers and allies are criticising the upcoming doc | Dazed

This appears to be exemplified by a forthcoming documentary, which is set to explore the tired question: is sex work exploitative or empowering?

* * *

However, after significant backlash from sex workers and allies, Cox announced yesterday (January 7) that she would be stepping down from the project. "When I agreed to come on as an executive producer of Sell/Buy/Date , I did so because I was so deeply moved by Sarah Jones' brilliant play and her unbelievable, undeniable talent as an artist," Cox said in a statement .

Chart Rewind: In 1983, Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney Thrilled With 'The Girl Is

Lightning struck twice for Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney  in 1983, a year in which the two pop icons achieved the rare feat of scoring not one, but two hit duets in a little more than a year -- with the first, "The Girl Is Mine," rocketing to its No. 2 peak on the Billboard Hot 100  on Jan. 8, 1983.

The collaboration between the titans -- one, a leading force behind the most successful group in history, and the other, soon to be his era's biggest solo performer -- came about as the song's producer, Quincy Jones , told Billboard in 2009, simply because "Michael and I just wanted to work with Paul." According to McCartney, Jackson rang up the former Beatle and, after McCartney believed he was being pranked and hung up, was able to present a simple pitch, "You want to make some hits?

El Dorado set to face Hot Springs Lakeside

El Dorado's varsity basketball teams didn't earn a lot of victories during non-conference play. Starting tonight, none of those early-season wins or losses will matter anyway.

* * *

"Everything starts over. The real season starts," said El Dorado boys' coach Jimmy Porter. "Everything up until this point was just preparation. You put your guys up against as many challenges as possible to expose your weaknesses and then you try to fix those weaknesses before conference play.
