*Saturday night, December 19, 2020, is the date that will go down as the digital debut of the “ SI Awards ” which honored some of the best athletes in the world, including LeBron James .
As Sports Illustrated itself noted, 2020 has been an unprecedented year filled with the COVID-19 pandemic, a divisive presidential election and national conversations centered on social injustice and racial inequality. With the foregoing as the back-drop, the “SI Awards” awards aimed to recognize the Sportsperson of the Year winners and other notable athletes and team moments that made 2020 memorable.

Winnie Harlow has been smashing barriers ever since she started in the modeling industry and she’s still on a record-breaking streak.
Earlier this week it was announced that Harlow will be a 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie in the upcoming issue, which marks the first time a model with vitiligo, a condition that causes patches of pigmentation loss on the skin, will be featured in the magazine. (She also just became the first model with vitiligo to walk the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in November .)

The head of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue posted a heartfelt message for the United States women’s national team in the wake of their 2019 Women’s World Cup victory.
Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Crystal Dunn and Abby Dahlkemper each posed for the 2019 edition of the magazine.
MJ Day, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Director, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram with some more photos.
“I couldn’t bring myself to post something prior to the game because as insane as it sounds, I didn’t want to jinx it. Alex, We have been friends for years and Megan, Crystal and Abby I fell in love with you guys on our shoot. I feel so connected to you all as humans, as a woman and as a FAN. Like so many, I wanted this so badly for you all, for your team and for the world to see just what 22 women can do.
