UK Expert: Why You Should be Concerned About What Your Kids Watch During School Closures | UKNow

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 4, 2020) — As the COVID-19 pandemic persists, children across the country are facing social isolation. With many school districts in the U.S. choosing remote learning, students are likely to consume more mass media.

* * *

Spears Brown delves deeper into this topic in a new report, published by the Council on Contemporary Families (CCF), which examines the mixed signals the mass media send to girls.

"The media want kids to do what they say, not what they show," Stephanie Coontz, CCF director of research, said "But as every parent knows, kids pay more attention to what we practice than what we preach. This research shows that 'the talk' may be equality, but 'the walk' is something else entirely."

Man accused of sexually abusing two girls who stayed with him on weekend sleepovers | Stuff.co.nz

The man's name is temporarily suppressed, but his trial in the Palmerston North District Court started on Monday before judge Jonathan Krebs.

The Crown alleges he made the girls perform sex acts and threatened them so they kept it secret. The defence says the girls are lying.

"I was very nervous. I didn't know what to do. I thought it was a nice compliment, but it turned out to be something horrible."

"I knew it wasn't right, but I sort of got used to it. It kept happening every day, every night almost.

The Vow Episode 3 Recap: 'At Cause'

Let's put aside the fact that the question "What if women could really do something?" is insulting, dismissive, and generally ignorant of the list of things women have done and continue to do for humanity on a minute-by-minute basis. (Remember how this whole "people existing" experiment only works if there are uteri?) We'll focus instead on how big and weird of a promise it was to the members of NXIVM.

If the first two episodes of "The Vow" focused on how shortie-David Foster Wallace-wannabe Keith Raniere and zombie TV morning-show host Nancy Salzman lured people into their voodoo multilevel marketing scheme, "At Cause" drills down hard on the way the men and women in NXIVM were herded into separate pens.

Not to change the topic here:

'The Selling Sunset girls love their jobs - and so do we': All female estate agency

Sadly, few of us will ever afford the homes under their hammer, but fans of the latest reality TV hit are still sold on the estate agency glamazons of Selling Sunset.

The series revolves around the offices of Los Angeles agency The Oppenheim Group, following the estate agens or "realtors" as they attempt to sell multi-million-dollar Hollywood homes.

The stakes are as high as the prices, but so too is the potential commission. And the glimpse through the keyhole of homes we can only dream of, combined with the drama generated by the cast, has made it one of the most-watched shows on Netflix.

Dealing with pressure from both sides now

"Honestly, running Monomoy Girl, when you're 2-5 on a Grade 1, it's pretty exhausting," Cox said. "It's taxing on you. It's really the only time -- honestly, it's the only time I ever really get nervous. Honestly, when you are 15-1 in a Grade 1, there's no pressure. You just want to run well."

Hot Springs' own Staton Flurry understandably was caught up in the moment after his first Grade 1 victory as a Thoroughbred owner. I've seen him stall walk, so to speak, before a relatively minor race at Oaklawn Park, where he and his mom, Dorothy, run a parking lot across from the track. About the Oaks, he was merely happy to be participating, fully aware that his filly wasn't getting much prerace attention. That all changed after 5 p.m.
