Military should not use video games to recruit young people

War is not a game. But impressionable kids may not be able to tell the difference if the U.S. military continues its esports recruitment.

The U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force have all launched esports teams and have been using popular video game streaming websites, such as Twitch, to drum up recruitment.

Active and reserve personnel have been hopping online to stream themselves playing video games and, in the process, talk with viewers about a range of topics, including the opportunities afforded by military service.

"sounds like a boomer' – PewDiePie reacts to Joe Rogan's comments on Video

No, he did not mean to insult Joe in any way by saying this. In fact, he made a very valid point by saying that it is just the generational gap that exists. He explained this gap with an example of how there must've been a time when people scoffed at people who read novels and asked them to go out in the real world. He also didn't like all the streamers calling out Joe saying that they do make money by playing games.

* * *

He also goes back to Joe's point where he says that video games are addictive. Felix says that video games are dopamine high and can be bad if kids are addicted to it. He also was probably addicted to video games too in his childhood. 'Even though there are a ton of benefits of video games like logical thinking, puzzle-solving, reaction time, it can help you get out of mental health situations and there are tons of positive benefits'.

Research: Children turn to video games in lockdown |

Children continue to turn their attention to video gaming, with its role taking an ever-more influential position in the daily habits and pursuits of 3 to 16-year-olds. While the lure of gaming was appealing before the Covid-19 pandemic, the latest wave of Kids Tech consumer research from Futuresource shows that two in every three children have increased their time spent playing video games, with China leading the trend.

As children allocate more of their leisure time to gaming, it has become an integral part of the wider entertainment market, accounting for 31 per cent of total entertainment content spend in 2019. This year, Futuresource expects gaming software to grow at 8 per cent in value terms, up from 6 per cent in 2019. And although there has been a general uptick across all areas of gaming, mobile gaming has seen the greatest revenue boost during 2020.
