PINS strike a stance of sass between disco-punk and alt-pop on 'Hot Slick'

Hot Slick hits playlists today (May 29), and it straddles a fine line between gritty disco-punk and glossy alt-pop, a sonic cocktail that’s purely 2020 at the core — one eye towards proper retro synth cues and the other deadlocked onto a dystopian spin on futuristic pop. It’s the soundtrack to the noir disco of your favorite ’80s film depicting the world five years from now.

In advance of today’s full LP experience, we’ve digested the rumbling, mood-setting title track, the glitched out disco thump of “Bad Girls Forever”, and then as referenced in March, throbbing electronic-pop standout “Ponytail,” of which singer Faith Vern presents the following: "Have you ever had a bad day and instead of crawling into bed with a bucket of ice cream, you swipe your mouth with some lipstick, put your high heels on and go out to dance?

Viewing Party! Let's All Watch 'Some Like It Hot'! - The New York Times

"I'm tired of getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop," says Sugar "Kane" Kowalczyk, the ukulele player with a soft spot for saxophonists. A lot of us know how she feels. Everyone could use a little candy right now, and we can't think of a sweeter way to spend time than with Sugar and her pals Jo and Daphne watching "Some Like It Hot."

On the run from Chicago gangsters after witnessing the St. Valentine's Day Massacre , Joe and Jerry transform into Jo and Daphne and join Sugar's all-girl band, Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopators. The complications and winks come fast and furious, and nearly every line sounds naughty. Daphne, whose instrument is, ahem, the bull fiddle, is romanced by a millionaire, Osgood Fielding III (Joe E. Brown). "Do you use a bow or do you just pluck it?" he asks .

Adorable & Adoptable–Pets of the Week: Hazel, Abby, & Hot Rod | SweetwaterNOW

Hello! Hazel, a young adult female cat. I’m a little shy but I’m very sweet and I love being petted. I get along with some cats but I’d be better as an only kitty. I’m spayed and have had some of my shots. I’m a pretty chill gal who is content with just hanging out and lazing around the house. However, if you want to give me cuddles I wouldn’t be opposed. I’m just a cute little kitty looking for her forever home. Are you coming to meet me?

When extended school closings were announced the week following spring break, the organization continued to support members and families by offering 8 a.m.-5 p.m. programming in a healthy, safe environment.

Hot Docs 2020: 10 of the Most Exciting Films in This Year’s Lineup | IndieWire

Like so many of its festival brethren, this year’s Hot Docs Festival has pivoted into online-only spaces, turning its (initially postponed) 2020 edition into an entirely virtual affair. But while the beloved documentary festival won’t have the usual physical gathering, this year’s full lineup is a robust one, with over 140 films and online events.

Every American of a certain age remembers where they were on the morning of 9/11, and every American of a certain age also remembers where President Bush was on the morning of 9/11. It’s one of those bizarre historical details that’s always felt too fitting to forget: Bush was visiting a (predominately black) classroom of second-grade students at Emma E.

How Friendship Across Political Parties Can Work - The Atlantic

This week she talks with two friends who didn't like each other when they first met as kids, and who grew up to hold very different political values. One is a Democrat, the other is a conservative who no longer considers herself part of the Republican Party since the election of Donald Trump, and both consider themselves feminists, though that wasn't always the case.

Lindsey: I had these four-inch-high, cherry-red Jessica Simpson heels. I wore them with a black skirt and a black-and-white striped top, and red lipstick. It was not necessarily an appropriate outfit for an 11-year-old to be wearing, but I did look great.
