Upon the release on April 8, Twitch saw 34 million hours of it watched on a single day , a record for one title. It went on to average over half a million viewers a day, as the most popular franchise on the platform.

So says Jan van Eck, whose firm runs the VanEck Vectors Video Gaming and eSports ETF (ESPO). Despite 2020's market turmoil, ESPO has made meaningful strides, climbing more than 12% year to date and hitting a new 52-week high on Friday.
The ETF tracks a basket of companies "involved in video game development, esports, and related hardware and software," according to VanEck's website .
"The esports ETF actually was up in the first quarter, believe it or not," van Eck, who is CEO of Van Eck Associates and the VanEck Vectors ETF Trust, told CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday.

LAYTON — Layton's Eli Nixon loves to compete. It's why he's emerged as one of the best senior soccer players in the state and earned himself a scholarship to play at UVU this fall.
Without high school sports to get that adrenaline rush though, Nixon found other ways to compete while stuck at home over the past five weeks. He's filled the gap with "a lot of board games and a lot of video games."
Board games have been a great way the family has tried to stay connected when any of the five older siblings are home. There's no family favorite either, Nixon said they like them all.
Facebook to Introduce an App for Gaming - The New York Times
Facebook plans to introduce the Facebook Gaming mobile app on Monday, the social network said, in its most decisive move into the video game business as people seek entertainment during the pandemic.
"Investing in gaming in general has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that really connects people," said Fidji Simo, head of the Facebook app, who reports to the Silicon Valley company's chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg. "It's entertainment that's not just a form of passive consumption but entertainment that is interactive and brings people together."
