Massachusetts State Police (MSP) has used Spot — it's four-legged and semiautonomous — in at least two police "incidents," according to documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts.
The documents, first reported by Ally Jarmanning at WBUR in Boston , describe Spot as a "mobile remote observation device" that is an "invaluable component of tactical operations" for state police, but they don't elaborate on the two "incidents" in which the robot was involved. In September, Boston Dynamics began leasing Spot to companies that might benefit from having a robot helper in the field: construction firms, oil, and gas companies, etc.

THORNTON, Colo. — On Cyber Monday, Denver7 got a look inside Amazon's Fulfillment Center in Thornton as workers prepared for a busy packing and shipping day.
Cyber Monday 2018 was the single biggest shopping day in the company's history with toys and fashion items among the top selling products, according to Amazon.
The Thornton Fulfillment Center opened in June 2018. About 1,500 full-time associates work alongside a system of hundreds of Amazon robotics. The robots, which look sort of like red Roomba vacuum cleaners with tall yellow shelves on top, move items around the 855,000-square-foot facility.

Kiwibot, Berkeley's pioneering robot delivery startup, is ending service — Berkeleyside
Berkeley food delivery startup Kiwibot (formerly Kiwi), familiar to many by its robots that roam the streets of the city, is shutting down.
Kiwibot's fleet of insulated, remote-controlled robots delivers hot and cold food items on campus and campus-adjacent areas of town. Founder and CEO Felipe Chávez started Kiwi in his native city of Bogotá, Colombia, in 2015, with people as couriers, rather than robots. When he brought the service north to California in January 2017 as part of UC Berkeley's LAUNCH program, Chávez switched the service to robots (but with students in Colombia powering them ).

For decades, many manufacturers have counted on robots to tirelessly produce parts of predictable quality. One of the key attributes of robots is their repeatability, which means that their tool tip will return to the same pre-programmed location with a known and relatively small error. Repeatability plays a role in ensuring predictability so that production stays within quality targets and the downstream processes receive parts meeting the required tolerances.

A Moonshot robot is earning marks for sorting trash
The interesting feature about this project is not just figuring out how to make the robots but rather how to make robots that can learn— in a move away from "painstakingly coding them to do specific and structured tasks."
The team's efforts in working toward everyday robots have been paying off in confirming what they hoped would be the case—by giving robots simple tasks and then having them practice, it is possible to teach them to develop new and better capabilities.
