Jamil Jan Kochai on the Intimate Alienation of Video Games | The New Yorker

Absolutely. Afghanistan doesn't appear much in video games, and, when it does, it's usually as some sort of propaganda for the American military. But when I found out that not only was the next Metal Gear Solid (my favorite gaming franchise of all time) going to be set in Afghanistan but that it had missions where you could actually assist Afghan mujahideen fighters, I revelled at the thought.

In the story, the character playing the game does go off course and believes that he finds his family's compound in Logar. Does the game offer that degree of accuracy?

Most Disappointing Video Games of 2019 | Screen Rant

Whatever the reason, some games have been met with a shrug of the shoulders from players this year. While not necessarily awful games, these are the most disappointing games of 2019.

Far Cry 5 was a particularly divisive entry in Ubisoft's open shooter franchise. The combat was seen as perhaps the best in the series overall, but story and character choices rubbed some players up the wrong way. A mini sequel followup called Far Cry: New Dawn looked set to move this setting into a colorful post-apocalypse, which had interest piqued in many.

Cloud gaming is the future of game monetization, not gameplay – TechCrunch

When you look at all of the tech trend stories of the past decade, one important saga that’s likely to be overlooked is the platformization of gaming. In the 2010s, the value of video games was realized in a way that completely transformed how the majority of users experienced sitting down with their favorite FPS or RPG.

The gaming industry questioned everything about the gaming experience in the past decade, but only in the past year have there been earnest efforts from major players to rethink where the game was actually rendered. Google Stadia isn’t the first cloud gaming effort by any means, but the platform, where games are rendered on remote servers and streamed to users’ screens over the web, was one of the most-talked about gaming announcements of the year.

10 video games we can't wait to play in 2020

Here at Mashable Entertainment HQ, we've looked through the lists and pored over release news. While this is by no means a complete list of the 2020 games we're excited to play, they're the ones we find ourselves thinking about the most based on everything revealed so far.

* * *

Of course people are hype for Marvel's Avengers . But the more we learn about what the game actually is, the more that hype seems justified. There's the story's star, Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel), and her quest to re-form the shattered Avengers years after they're driven apart by a terrible and very public misstep. Outside of that story, we also know there's a very online-focused experience that's all about teaming up with friends and chasing power-enhancing loot a la Destiny .

Top 5 Video Games Arriving in January 2020 | COGconnected

2019 is just about over and another year of gaming begins with January 2020. With the next generation of consoles set to release at the end of the year, gamers still have roughly three-quarters of 2020 video game releases to tide them over until then. The 10 Greatest Games Of The Past Decade

The last 10 years have been a period of dramatic evolution in video games. From revolutions in interactive storytelling (remember a time when "walking simulator" and " Souls " weren't genres?) to significant progress in game creation inclusivity, what defined gaming has mutated into something stranger, more expansive, and—dare we say it?—more human. After much debate among our editorial board, here is the definitive list of the 10 greatest games of the past decade.

Sure, Epic Games' colorful shooter might not be the most meaningful thing in the world, but with its three gameplay modes and reinvention of the battle royale genre, Fortnite more than earns its place atop our list. Plus, if it keeps Jeremy off the amphetamines—which it seems to be doing—then more power to it, you know?
