W hat makes a fashion trend? Is it designers, dreaming up ideas for their next collection, or textile manufacturers, who exhibit their raw materials to brands long before they resemble anything like clothes? Is it celebrities and social media influencers, who post their latest outfits on Instagram, or is it the stylists who have dressed them in said outfits, to ensure they're photo-ready for every appearance?
The truth is, it's a combination of all these factors, along with prevailing cultural and social trends. This mash-up of influences is most exposed in Google's Year in Search , a newly-released batch of data revealing what exactly people were searching for when it came to fashion trends in 2019. ...

BWW Review: MEAN GIRLS National Tour at the James M. Nederlander Theater
The first national tour of the MEAN GIRLS musical has arrived in Chicago, and it's totally fetch. Original screenwriter Tina Fey has partnered with composer Jeff Richmond (her husband), lyricist Nell Benjamin , and director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw to create a show in line with its pop musical contemporaries. MEAN GIRLS has an unabashedly pop score, filled with a combination of big belty numbers and upbeat tunes.
Nicholaw's production concept lends itself nicely to a tour. Scott Pask 's set relies heavily on projections (with video designs by Finn Ross and Adam Young and which were flawlessly executed on opening night) to convey a range of different spaces, and the set pieces that make up North Shore High can easily glide on and offstage. Thus, this tour does not compromise at all when it comes to production value.

Best of 2019: I was a friend of Jeffrey Epstein. Here's what I know | Salon.com
When we met in 1986, Epstein’s double identity intrigued me — he said he didn’t just manage money for clients with mega-fortunes, he was also a high-level bounty hunter. Sometimes, he told me, he worked for governments to recover money looted by African dictators. Other times those dictators hired him to help them hide their stolen money.
Epstein was pleased that I was interested in writing about him. Not a profile. A book. That prospect convinced him that I should see a sample of his craft, so we met in the lobby of an office building on Park Avenue South and took an elevator to a law firm, where he intended to serve a subpoena. He didn’t get past the receptionist.
