Chinese concentration camps: Leak of secret government documents details conditions - The

A growing body of evidence from former detainees, human rights groups and reporters documents the Chinese government's efforts to forcibly indoctrinate more than 1 million members of ethnic minorities in camps, exposing the reality of what officials call a massive job-training initiative.

Papers released Sunday pierce a culture of intense secrecy to add a new piece of corroboration: the government's own classified directives.

The manual is especially enlightening in its specificity, experts say, describing strict surveillance of "students" and a system for assimilation to mainstream Chinese culture. "Vocational skills improvement" is not offered until a year into detention.

No One Knows I'm Gay. Should I Tell People Now? - The Atlantic

I have secretly fallen in love with male friends over the years, but never told them, as they are heterosexual and usually in a relationship. Eventually I get over these crushes, and we remain good friends without my ever saying anything.

Then again, what benefit would it be to my boss, my elderly mother, or my friends to know the truth?

* * *

I can only imagine the depth of your pain after more than six decades of pretending to be someone you're not. After all, it's a basic human need to be who we really are—and for others to know us as we really are—and the ache you're experiencing is the ache of an incarcerated self, a self that's been held in solitary confinement.

The crackdown on secret real estate listings - WKBT

(CNN) - The National Association of Realtors is cracking down on "private listings," properties that aren't listed publicly on the multiple listing service and get shown to only a handful of buyers.

Multiple listing services are a network of databases that agents use to share their listings with the widest possible audience. Once a property is listed on a local MLS, it can be accessed by agents around the country and gets picked up by major home buying websites, like Zillow and Trulia. The benefit to buyers is that they can easily access information about all properties on the market while working with one agent.

If it's in writing, don't think it's a secret

For all the sharing on social media and texting that Americans do, Tuma said people still express shock at how much access authorities have to their phones and digital profiles.

"People get so upset when they hear Dallas-Fort Worth is using facial recognition technology for flights, yet at the same time, they are Snapchatting their face with reindeer antlers," Tuma said. "It's the same technology and we're doing it all day on Snapchat, but we freak out when the government does it."

Its four floors and 40 rooms have seven fireplaces, 14 chandeliers and 67 original stained-glass windows.

A cabinet holds a full tea and china set from the Ringlings, cue sticks used by the famed circus family to play snooker still hang in the billiard room, and furniture from Ringling homes around the country are on display. There’s a roll-top desk used by Charles Ringling, Alf T. Ringling’s dining-room table and an old sewing box that was turned into a ticket box when Al., as a child, decided to set up his own circus with a few of his brothers.
