Venom 2 is due in theaters in less than a year, and the film is still adding characters. Deadline says Carnage is the "presumptive primary villain" because of his appearance in the post-credits scene from the first Venom (where he was played by a red-haired Woody Harrelson), and now they say that Sony is looking for an actress to cast alongside Carnage as Shriek, who was a mainstay of Spider-Man and Venom comics throughout the 1990s, basically as Carnage's sidekick and partner in crime.
Both characters were featured prominently in the epic Maximum Carnage series that crossed over between all four monthly '90s Spider-Man comics and became one of the decade's signature storylines! Crews in yellow protective suits have been working 12 hours a day trying to mitigate the effects of the oil, setting up thousands of feet of containment boom, spraying sphagnum moss, a peat absorbent on the grass to keep it from sticking to other surfaces and animals, and removing already dead, oiled marsh grass.
Right Whale Moms 'Whisper' to Their Calves to Steer Clear Of Predators - News18
The researchers, including those from Duke University in the US, said that the critically endangered whales had few natural predators, but the calves were vulnerable to orcas and sharks.
The study, published in the journal Current Biology, noted that new whale moms, when communicating with their calves, drastically reduced their "up call" which they typically used to engage with other right whales over long distances.
The researchers said that the up call typically consisted of a short, loud nearly 2-minute long "whoop" sound that rose sharply and traveled long distances underwater.
However, they added that the same call was modified while communicating with their young ones into a very quiet, short, grunt-like sound that is audible only over smaller distances.
The sounds were previously unknown to scientists, and "can be thought of almost like a human whisper," said Susan Parks, lead author of the study from Syracuse University in the US.
Beats Solo Pro headphones drop with active noise cancellation
An Apple subsidiary has stolen a march on the AirPods line by launching Beats Solo Pro, headphones with active noise cancellation.
But this isn't a set of tiny eabuds, though. It's for people who want larger, on-ear headphones.

This is apparently the successor to the Beats Solo3 Wireless , despite Apple going with a "Pro" name instead of Solo4.

A New Exhibition at the Natural History Museum Explores the Science Behind Classic Monsters |
Natural History of Horrors includes real historic artifacts mixed with props from classic Universal Horror films, focused on Dracula , Frankenstein , The Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon .
Much of the horror genre is rooted in the fear of the unknown. Monsters, ghouls and spooky stories play on humanity's limited knowledge of the natural world and anxiety of what hidden forces might be beyond our understanding. A new exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles dives into that connection to the natural world, using four classic horror franchises and monsters as its jumping off point.
Natural History of Horror opened at the Exposition Park museum on Oct. 10, just in time for the start of the Halloween season. Set up in the corner exhibit hall, the show mixes text and images about the scientific and literary history of its subjects along with artifacts from classic Universal Pictures horror films of the 1930s-1950s, plus some interactive elements.
Why sonic branding is more than just the McDonald's jingle | Design Week
“Asking a sonic branding agency if you just do sonic logos is like asking a visual agency if they only do business cards.”
So says Michele Arnese, CEO and founder at sonic branding company Amp, which has headquarters in Germany. It now also has branches in Switzerland, Italy, China and the US. That expansion speaks to the rising importance of sound design to brands — and what that covers is equally expansive.
Gone are the days of a two second sound logo with an animation at the end of an advert. You might be able to recall the Intel noise and the McDonald’s ‘I’m Lovin’it’ but they weren’t made for a holistic experience. Amp has a term for this new type of sound work: sonic DNA.
Uli Reese, the company’s CMO, says that it’s the biggest mistake he sees for brands. “I look at TV commercials and see sound design driven logos which our brain cannot understand. The anatomy of our brains is not wired to understand sound and noise. It’s wired to recall music — we’re born Mozarts.”
