Originally, Koch was slated to do a spacewalk with her then-crewmate, Anne McClain, which would have been the first all-female spacewalk in the history of space travel! But this time around, NASA has the spacesuits ready. NASA claims the decision to launch this second medium-sized suit had to do with the number of spacewalks coming up and which crew members will be available in the months ahead. "We don't do it for a specific crew member," Shireman said during a press conference on Friday. "Actually, what we do is we look over the next two years, and look at all the crew members who are [spacewalk] certified, and say, 'Okay, what's the sweet spot?'" Shireman noted that over the next couple of years, a lot of "medium suit people" will be heading to the ISS.

Companies have until Nov. 1 to submit proposals to NASA for a human-rated lander that could be ready in time to carry astronauts to the moon’s surface by the end of 2024, and the agency is leaving open the option for contractors to develop a descent craft that would bypass the planned Gateway mini-space station in lunar orbit, at least for the first landing attempt.
The lunar lander, or Human Landing System, is critical to the Trump administration’s goal of returning humans to the moon’s surface by the end of 2024. NASA named effort after Artemis, the twin sister of Apollo in Greek mythology, after Vice President Mike Pence announced the 2024 goal in a speech March 26.

The lagoons surrounding the space shuttle launch pads were filled with dead fish after most liftoffs during the 30-year program.
But the 135 launches, which began in 1981, also had effects more difficult to see. The solid rocket boosters sent hydrochloric acid and aluminum northward from the launch pad in a ball of flames; iron and zinc particles were measured at higher rates; increases in calcium, potassium and sodium were discovered in soil near the launch sites.
These impacts were detailed in a 2014 study of the program. But NASA still does not conduct general environmental studies on the impacts of space launches on the land, sea and air.
For over half a century, space exploration has expanded our knowledge of Earth; led to major scientific discoveries such as the microchip; and inspired generations of young people to study science, technology, engineering and math.

Eight briefcase-size satellites flying in a row may be key to improving forecasts of a hurricane's wind speed - detecting whether it will make landfall as a Category 1 or a Category 5. NASA's Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) fleet, launched in 2016, was designed to show whether the same GPS signals your phone uses for navigation can be used to measure winds deep within a hurricane or typhoon. The answer appears to be a resounding yes.
Weather forecasting models have gotten much better at predicting the future track of a hurricane or typhoon, but they haven't improved at predicting its maximum wind speed, which scientists call intensity. That's because these tropical giants are steered by outside forces, such as regional winds, but their intensity depends on forces within each storm. And while many satellites can see the external winds, they can't see through a hurricane's thick clouds and rain.
