Hubble Space Telescope Scientists See Milky Way Galaxy Absorbing Extra Gas from Space

The Milky Way seems to be gobbling up a mysterious amount of gas—more than it spits back out, according to a new paper.

So, where's the extra mass coming from? Study author Andrew Fox from the Space Telescope Science Institute suggested that perhaps the Milky Way was slurping up mass from the intergalactic medium, as well as its smaller satellite galaxies, according to the release.

The authors note that the calculations are based on solely a snapshot of the Milky Way today, and that caution should be taken when trying to extrapolate the rates that mass is flowing over time, according to the paper! NASA launches satellite to mysterious zone where Earth meets space | News | DW | 11.10.2019

The Icon satellite will explore the frontier of the Earth and space, where energy from above and below combines to affect everything from astronaut missions to radio and GPS communication.

* * *

NASA launched a satellite Thursday to explore the ionosphere, a mysterious part of Earth's atmosphere  on the edge of space.

The satellite shot into orbit from a plane flying over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the US state of Florida.

The satellite called Icon, or Ionospheric Connection Explorer, will transmit data intended to help scientists understand the "physical processes at work where Earth's atmosphere interacts with near-Earth space," NASA said.

Research by scientists at NASA has identified this region of "near space" as being in constant flux from solar storms above and weather below.

'Brushing' scam delivers mysterious packages to doorsteps - National News - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCNC) — What would you think if dozens of Amazon packages you didn't order showed up on your doorstep — addressed to you?

It might sound like Christmas came early, but the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning it's actually part of a scam called "Amazon brushing" intended to falsely inflate online reviews.

One North Carolina man told the NBC Charlotte Defenders team he's been getting nearly 30 packages a week since July and had no idea why.

* * *

But the perplexed recipients said the site isn't able to actually put a stop to the deliveries, and they're starting to feel boxed in.

Further, the BBB warns, "The fact that someone was able to have the items sent to you as if you purchased them indicates that they probably have some of your Amazon account information."
