Gael, Manson NW girls headed to state XC | News, Sports, Jobs - Messenger News

HOLSTEIN — For the sixth consecutive season the St. Edmond girls cross country team will get to compete on their home course for state medals.

* * *

“Six in a row is impressive. The cool thing about streaks, is you’re not going to have the same people each time,” said St. Edmond head coach Mike Szalat. “ A lot of girls have contributed to this thing and I knew this one was going to be close.

“I’m always excited to see new kids qualify and it never gets old. I want this every year for the kids and want them to experience it. I’m just as giddy as the first team that made it to go to state.”

St. Edmond will also be represented on the boys’ side by Aaron Lursen, who set a freshman record in 17:34 with a fifth place showing! Oak Glen Girls Blank Wheeling Central in Sectional Soccer Semifinal | News, Sports, Jobs - The

Photo by Andrew Grimm Oak Glen's Madison McKay (16) tries to fend off Wheeling Central's Katie Bailer during a sectional semifinal in New Manchester.

NEW MANCHESTER — Oak Glen has become quite accustomed to teams playing defensive against it. So, when Wheeling Central did it in Thursday’s sectional semifinal, the Golden Bears knew just what to do.

Oak Glen scored once in the first half, then, with a few adjustments, opened things up in the second half en route to a 6-0 victory to advance to Saturday’s sectional title match.

“We knew it was going to happen,” Oak Glen coach Ryan Wells said. “It was just a matter of feeling them out. There were a lot of white jerseys inside the 20-yard-line. It was just a matter of stretching a team out, and I thought we did a better job of that. We adjusted, switched up formations in the second half, and just finished! Quite a lot has been going on:

Thursday's Girls Soccer: Rochester Edges Centralia 1-0 | Sports | chronline.com

The Centralia City Council on Tuesday voted to approve the final change to a contract for removal of potentially hazardous trees at Fort Borst Park which reduced the cost of the contract by more than $4,700.

ONALASKA — Toledo dropped the Loggers in straight sets here on Thursday with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18 for a Central 2B League volleyball victory.

While some retirees look forward to extended periods of leisure once they exit the grind of daily employment, Neal Kirby — a longtime educator — has decided to ramp things up and take the road less traveled.

I'm writing to ask that voters don't let a union sabotage the Centralia School Board for their petty revenge.
