What Causes a Mysterious Paralysis in Children? Researchers Find Viral Clues - The New York Times

About 10 days after what seemed like a garden-variety cold, Luca Waugh, a healthy 4-year-old, developed troubling symptoms.

Suddenly, his neck became so weak that he fell backward. Then his right arm couldn't move. Within days, recalled his mother, Dr. Riley Bove, he developed "head-to-toe paralysis, where he could kind of move his eyes a little bit and one side of his face."

Doctors diagnosed Luca with acute flaccid myelitis or A.F.M., a mysterious neurological condition that can cause limb weakness and polio-like paralysis, mostly in young children! Behind the billboard: Mysterious group seeks accountability from university

There have been at least 10 lawsuits filed against Ohio State in relation to Strauss, including three this month.

Ian Prior, the group's spokesperson, said The Ohio State Accountability Project's ultimate goal is to make sure something like this never happens again.

"I think the more people that have that awareness and that are educated on it will put enough pressure to put in place the right protocols, the right procedures," he said.

Brian Garrett, former Ohio State wrestler, survivor and lead plaintiff in one of the Strauss-related suits, said he doesn't know who is behind the group, and no one from the group has contacted him.

Prior said the group's mission is to effect change at the university through a forward-looking approach.

The group is supported by "alumni and interested parties," Prior said, but he said he could not discuss the specifics of who is in the group or how many people are involved.

Pokémon Go's professor hints at something big with mysterious tech - Polygon

Pokémon Go 's leading character, Professor Willow, announced that he found something suspicious while investigating Team Rocket.

He calls the newfound tech "Mysterious Components" and notes that these are what Team Rocket have been using to take over PokéStops over the past few months! He also notes that Team Rocket grunts have been dropping these when they're defeated, which means that's how we'll likely obtain them in the future.

It's unknown what the Mysterious Components will be used for, but Professor Willow did go on to confirm that they must have a use outside of turning PokéStops.

Some players are speculating this could have to do with Arceus, as it looks similar to the Alpha Pokémon's plates that it needs to change typing, though it seems unlikely, given that the plates are more slate-like and involve no technology.

Mysterious landslide on Mars may not be what it seems, scientists claim | Metro News

Scientists have been analysing a gigantic 55 km-wide landslide on Mars which formed 400 million years ago.

It was previously suggested that the land must have slipped because a layer of ice was buried beneath the surface.

However, a team from University College London said the landslides could have formed during high-speed avalanches caused by underlying layers of 'unstable, fragmented rocks'.

This finding 'challenges the idea that underlying layers of slippery ice can only explain such long vast ridges, which are found on landslides throughout the solar system'.

First author, PhD student Giulia Magnarini, said: 'Landslides on Earth, particularly those on top of glaciers, have been studied by scientists as a proxy for those on Mars because they show similarly shaped ridges and furrows, inferring that Martian landslides also depended on an icy substrate.
