ANTM Doc Addresses Shandi Cheating Sex Scene Over 20 Years Later

America's Next Top Model certainly had its fair share of scandals; however, nothing was perhaps as controversial as the Shandi ⁘cheating⁘ scandal in season 2.

During the later episodes of season 2, which took place in Milan, Italy, contestant Shandi Sullivan was filmed getting ⁘black out drunk⁘ with a group of Italian men, before she was shown in bed having sex with one of them. Producers chose to film and show not only Sullivan in bed with the man, but also the highly emotional fallout from the incident, including a heartbreaking phone call to her boyfriend back home. The incident has garnered much criticism from viewers over the years, accusing the show of creating an unsafe environment and allowing the incident to happen, by filming and showing it all.

In the new Netflix documentary, Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model , out on February 16, judges and members of the show's production team addressed the incident more than 20 years later. Sullivan also gave an account of story.

⁘We were just talking, drinking,⁘ Sullivan said in the first episode of the documentary, recalling how the night began. ⁘I don't think I'd eaten anything at all or had any sleep. I remember getting in the hot tub. I remember April and Mercedes getting in the hot tub. And then I just remember the guy looking at me and I looked at him, and I was pretty drunk at that point. Everything kind of after that is just a blur. All I remember is just like, just like remember him on top of me. I was blacked out. No one did anything to stop it. And it all got filmed, all of it. Every moment of it.⁘

In the second episode of the documentary, host Tyra Banks finally addresses the controversy. "I do remember her story," she said. "It's a little difficult for me to talk about production because that's not my territory.
