A state lawmaker says he was interviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office about allegations that staffers in the Indiana lieutenant governor's office watched a deepfake video portraying his wife topless.
But he told IndyStar he is disappointed with the response from the governor's office, which has thus far distanced itself from the situation. Haggard said he thinks the state should launch an independent investigation.
"If somebody in the office did it, I want their heads to roll. If somebody made this up, I want their heads to roll," Haggard said. "Obviously, somebody did something, whether they made it up or whether it's true. We need to find out and say, 'We don't tolerate either kind of behavior,' with whatever behavior is proven."
24sightNews reported that a staffer and contract lawyer in Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith's office viewed an AI-generated deepfake video of Haggard's wife on April 10. The alleged video portrayed her topless while performing at the previous evening's Hoosier Idol event, an annual state talent show and fundraiser, according to 24sightNews' reporting.
"If it were in my office, there would be quick getting to the bottom of it and full accountability, and I would expect that would be the case there," he said. "You never know what you're going to hear over the weekend ― that was a different one."
