All week, music fans from around the globe have been revving up for the Eurovision Song Contest . The much-anticipated annual spectacle, set for Saturday, May 17, captures the gaze of international audiences year after year. Yet, it was during Thursday's semi-finals in Basel, Switzerland, that a 29-year-old viral pop marvel delivered such a stirring act that viewers were momentarily convinced they were watching a global superstar. Go-Jo, or ⁘the Milkshake Man⁘ as he's affectionately known due to his catchy tune, dazzled with a show-stopping number complete with huge blenders, Freddie Mercury-esque jumpsuits, dramatic costume swaps and billowing smoke.
Marty Zambotto, the Sydney-based singer-songwriter behind the persona, reportedly staged one of the most entertaining shows in Australia 's 10-year history at the grand music contest. Despite not securing a spot in this weekend's grand finale, there was one aspect of his performance that caught everyone's eye.
As he emerged on stage donning a baby blue jumpsuit adorned with glitter and sparkles, comparisons to a certain iconic performer were inevitable. Flocking to social media, many fans were quick to note his uncanny resemblance to a well-known artist.
On social media, one user exclaimed: ⁘Did not know that Benson Boone was Australian.⁘ Another was equally baffled, commenting: ⁘Why is Benson Boone in Eurovision??⁘
After the singer's unsuccessful attempt to move forward, one fan lamented: ⁘Sexy Benson Boone, you deserved so much better.⁘
For those who might not recall, American singer Benson Boone, 22, dazzled the GRAMMY crowd earlier this year in his shimmering blue jumpsuit. When the so-called Milkshake Man emerged in a strikingly similar ensemble and with a similar hairstyle, the resemblance didn't go unnoticed by the audience.
This week marks the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, with 37 countries battling it out. Now, 26 acts are ready for the grand finale airing Saturday, May 17 across Europe and on Sunday, May 18 at 5 am AEST on SBS and SBS On Demand.
