Grammy-nominated country and rock superstar Jelly Roll is adding another title to his growing list of new creative and professional duties: American Idol artist-in-residence.
Idol host Ryan Seacrest shared the news in a YouTube clip on Tuesday, highlighting that he feels the "Save Me" vocalist is "shaping America's future."
Before grabbing Seacrest and throwing him over his shoulder, Jelly Roll added, "I'm (going to give them) the energy they need. I'm uplifting and trying to get 'em goin'!"
American Idol's 23rd season premieres on ABC on March 9 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans will get a preview of the upcoming season a week prior when ABC airs a special after the 97th Oscars.
Jelly Roll's addition to the program is no surprise. In the past two years, he's appeared on the show as a special guest and mentor.
However, nearly a quarter-century into its storied history, "Idol" is doing much more than just quadrupling down on its country bona fides.
Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich feels Underwood's return creates a "full-circle moment" for Underwood and the program's viewers.
"As a former Idol and dynamic musical force, she brings a remarkably unique perspective to one of the most popular television shows," Erwich said, in a press release.
