Kyra Waits, from Berea, Kentucky, stole the hearts of the judges on "American Idol" Sunday night, getting a standing ovation and securing a spot in Hollywood after receiving three "yeses" from Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
According to " American Idol ," the 23-year-old stay-at-home mom auditioned for the show five times before being selected to sing in front of the judges. Waits, who said she inherited her musical talent from her mother, sang "Up the Mountain" by Patty Griffin.
"I just inherited it from her. Seeing my mom being a singer, I just always aspired to be like her. She was a bluegrass singer," Waits said. "My mom is rootin' for me to go all the way because she never got the opportunity, so I just want to make her, and my whole family, proud."
