BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - From Berea to the national stage singer, Kyra Waits is making a name for herself on one of the biggest singing competition shows on TV.
"I started to somewhat give up hope. This year was going to be my last time trying, actually," said Waits.
"I took an interest at a young age, but the older I got, the more that I wanted to do and the more people I wanted sing for," said Waits.
Waits sang 'Up to the Mountain' by Patty Griffin for her audition. She said she chose the song written about MLK because it reminded her of her own journey to Idol.
