Krista Vernoff is stepping down as showrunner and executive producer of both “ Grey’s Anatomy ” and “ Station 19 ” at ABC, Variety has confirmed.
Vernoff will officially depart upon the conclusion of the current season of both shows. “Grey’s” is currently in its 19th season while “Station 19” is in its sixth. No new showrunner for either show has yet been named.

Get the defibrillator, stat! Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 's Krista Vernoff will be leaving her posts as showrunner and executive producer of both ABC shows at the conclusion of their current seasons, TVLine has confirmed.
For her part, Rhimes said that "Krista's creativity, vision and dedicated leadership have allowed Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 to continue to flourish. I am incredibly grateful to her for all her hard work. She will always remain part of the Shondaland family."

Vernoff worked as head writer and executive producer on the first seven seasons of Grey's. She departed and eventually returned in her current role at the start of season 14 in 2017.
Instead of completely cutting the cord, Krista referenced back to her previous departure from the show as a way to soften the blow.

The showrunner will exit at the end of the medical drama's current 19th season and conclusion of the firefighter spinoff's seventh season. There is no word on a new showrunner for both Shonda Rhimes-produced shows as ABC has yet to renew either.
