EarthSky | Asteroid hit Canada mere hours after discovery

Astronomers spotted an asteroid just hours before it impacted with Earth this morning (November 19, 2022), near Lake Erie. This is not the first time this year astronomers have discovered a rock from space just hours before it hit Earth.

Ye Quanzhi , a University of Maryland astronomer who studies asteroids, comets and meteors, reported on Twitter at 1:13 a.m. EST on November 19:

The Mysterious Comets That Hide in the Asteroid Belt - The New York Times

What do you expect to find in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter? Unsurprisingly, asteroids — millions of bits of rocky debris — would be the correct answer. But recently, astronomers have found some oddball objects that appear to be misplaced hiding in the rubble: comets.

75-foot asteroid set to get dangerously close to Earth today, reveals NASA | Tech News

After multiple failed attempts, NASA was finally able to launch the Artemis 1 Moon rocket successfully. The mission is going to be the precursor before the American space agency sends crewed spacecraft to the Moon again.

However, the prediction by NASA at the moment is that there is little chance that 2022 VO2 will strike the Earth. It is expected that the asteroid will make a safe passage. However, various instruments will be monitoring it till it is at a safe distance from us.

What Would Asteroid Mining do to the World's Economy? - Universe Today

About a decade ago, the prospect of “asteroid mining” saw a massive surge in interest. This was due largely to the rise of the commercial space sector and the belief that harvesting resources from space would soon become a reality.

Nevertheless, there is little doubt that a human presence in space will entail harvesting resources from Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs) and beyond.
