A loving salute to NASA's Mars rover program in 'Good Night Oppy' | KOSU

When first spotted, Oppy has been on a roll but has abruptly come to a stop. "Hazard detected," she alerts her handlers on earth. They get the message some six minutes later, look at the image she's sent, and send back a few words that get her rolling again: "You are safe to proceed.
"To say it's like a child being born would be to trivialize parenthood," says mission manager Steve Squyres early in the film, "but it feels sorta like that."

NASA Prepares to Say 'Farewell' to InSight Spacecraft

Editor's note: The text has been updated to include a reference to seismic data from NASA's Viking missions to Mars.
A closer look at what goes into wrapping up the mission as the spacecraft's power supply continues to dwindle.
Using the camera on its robotic arm, NASA's InSight lander took these selfies on Dec. 6, 2018 – just 10 days after touchdown on Mars – and April 24, 2022. A thick layer of dust can be seen on the lander and its solar panels in the latter image. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech

NASA Asteroid Threat Practice Drill Shows We're Not Ready - Scientific American

On August 16, 2022 an approximately 70-meter asteroid entered Earth’s atmosphere. At 2:02:10 P.M. EDT, the space rock exploded eight miles over Winston-Salem, N.C., with the energy of 10 megatons of TNT. The airburst virtually leveled the city and surrounding area.
Well, not really. The destruction of Winston-Salem was the story line of the fourth Planetary Defense Tabletop Exercise, run by NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office .

NASA Is Studying a Private Mission to Boost Hubble's Orbit. Is It Worth the Risk?

For more than three decades , the Hubble Space Telescope has been breaking new ground in astronomy, cosmology and planetary science, delivering results that few if any other facilities can match—let alone exceed.
NASA staged five space shuttle missions to Hubble in low-Earth orbit between 1993 and 2009 to upgrade science instruments, replace failed systems and boost Hubble’s orbit, which naturally decays over time because of friction against the tenuous outer reaches of Earth’s atmosphere.
