NASA's Lucy mission adds 9th asteroid to its list of attractions | Space

Lucy launched in October 2021 and is bound for the Trojan asteroids, which, thanks to the pull of Jupiter's immense gravity , ride in the gas giant's orbit ahead of and behind the behemoth. In 2027, Lucy will become the first human-made object to fly past one of these asteroids.

ALMA Creates Detailed Maps of Main-Belt Asteroid Psyche | Sci-News.com

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array located on the Chajnantor Plateau in Chile allowed the acquisition of temperature images of (16) Psyche , an M-type asteroid of about 220 km in size, at a resolution of 30 km/pixel — the highest ever achieved from Earth.

"Psyche's surface is very heterogeneous," says lead author Saverio Cambioni, the Crosby Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS).

See the moon shine near massive asteroid Vesta this weekend. | Space

In the early hours of Sunday morning (June 19) the waning moon will pass within a thumbs width of asteroid Vesta in the east-southeastern sky. 

During this close approach, the pair will share the view in a widefield telescope eyepiece, according to Chris Vaughan, amateur astronomer with SkySafari Software who oversees Space.com's Night Sky calendar . Shining at magnitude 6.75, Vesta will be visible to the moon 's upper left.
