Chinese Hackers Distributing SMS Bomber Tool with Malware Hidden Inside

A threat cluster with ties to a hacking group called Tropic Trooper has been spotted using a previously undocumented malware coded in Nim language to strike targets as part of a newly discovered campaign.

The novel loader, dubbed Nimbda, is "bundled with a Chinese language greyware 'SMS Bomber' tool that is most likely illegally distributed in the Chinese-speaking web," Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point said in a report.

Security researchers at Secureworks Inc.’s Counter Threat Unit today published a new report on a Chinese hacking group suspected of deploying ransomware as a smokescreen for espionage.

The group, called Bronze Starlight, has been active since early 2021. It compromises networks by exploiting vulnerabilities in network perimeter devices, including known vulnerabilities for which patches are available.

Hackers stole Social Security numbers in Flagstar data breach affecting 1.5 million customers ...

Flagstar Bank, one of the largest financial service providers in the United States, has notified more than 1.5 million customers of a data breach in which Social Security numbers were stolen — its second incident in two years.

In a letter sent to those affected, Michigan-headquartered Flagstar revealed that hackers breached its corporate network between December 3 and December 4, 2021. After an investigation, the bank discovered on June 2, 2022 that the threat actors accessed sensitive customer details.
