Here's a look at who turned out to be the top high school girls basketball players in the county. The Monterey Herald's All-County girls’ basketball team:

Leanna Bayhonan, North Salinas: Forming part of arguably the best scoring tandem in the county, Bayhonan averaged 17.8 points a night for the perennial Gabilan Division powers.

Empower girls by helping them find their way to sports, activities: Letter

As a female activities director, my dearest wish is that I can help other young women develop their strength and confidence, and activities is an ideal way to accomplish both. Sports and activities empower girls and women in so many ways. Girls in sports build physical and mental strength.

Gonzaga and Arizona nabbed No. 1 seeds. So did Kansas and Baylor. See the whole field of 68 before Selection Sunday.

Cheyenne East defended its Class 4A girls state title by locking down on defense and getting the ball to Boden Liljedahl. The end result was a 51-41 victory over Cody in the Wyoming State High School Basketball Championships on Saturday at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
