Why Ben Affleck Was Nixed as Superman | Den of Geek

While Ben Affleck cemented his cinematic status as Batman in Warner's DC Extended Universe, he experienced an interesting path to A-list comic book movie stardom.

Indeed, decades before director Zack Snyder cast the actor as a new version of vigilante billionaire Bruce Wayne/Batman for 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , Affleck faced bright prospects to play DC Comics' other mascot-level superhero for a Superman reboot project.

Superman & Lois season 1 recap: Man of Steel's messiest story, reimagined - Polygon

Just when it seemed like The CW was running out of DC super steam , Superman & Lois arrived with surprisingly warm grace, a confident response to the idea that Superman stories are boring .

That doesn't mean Superman & Lois was light on action or comic book intrigue. In fact, it pulled off one of the deftest tricks I've seen a superhero show do: sneakily adapting one of the messiest and sprawling comic book stories into something that felt fresh and new.

Why The DCEU Shouldn't Be Afraid To Make Superman Silly

If Superman returns to the DCEU in a reboot , writers shouldn't be afraid to humanize him with a little silliness. This will, of course, need some care. Audiences are increasingly tired of the quippy humor of the MCU, and the same style wouldn't fit the DCEU at all.

The DCEU began with the aim of having a darker tone than the MCU, replacing bright colors and quippy one-liners with a desaturated palette and stoic brooding.

Science Voice: Who invented superman? | Opinion | grandrapidsmn.com

The modern version of the super-action-hero can be traced to Jerry Siegel in the early 1930s, who, along with illustrator Joe Shuster, developed many different characters for comic books and strips for newspapers including Superman.

Siegel didn't invent the notion of an extraordinary fictional human or the idea of heroes in general or science fiction. Science fiction writing had been around for some time. He didn't create the word 'superman'.
