Port Huron resident Cayla "Sissy" Ross has come a long way from sneaking away at family reunions so her fingers could find her great-grandmother's piano.
Ross acquired the space for the studio in the former Sentech Employment Services office at 914 Military St. in June and opened the studio in July, though she is still working on the space.

"It's been tough," said Philip “Chip” Winnard, owner of Wood Bros. Music in Pittsfield, the oldest instrument retailer in Berkshire County. "I've seen some musicians who have lost some steam over not being able to play."
Other musicians and performing artists found new ways to reach their audiences. Winnard saw an uptick in purchases of interfaces, or hardware that converts music to digital audio, and microphones for podcasting as well as sound system installations and video production.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Marcus Ericsson soared over a car early, overcame hard-charging runs from Colton Herta and Scott Dixon late and survived the perilous city streets of Nashville on Sunday to win the inaugural Music City Grand Prix.
Ericsson made the IndyCar highlight reel long before the checkered flag when he jumped the backside of Sebastien Bourdais ' Chevrolet and knocked the Frenchman out of the race.
Mile of Music: Hundreds of volunteers at work in downtown Appleton
Without the contributions of those many volunteers each year, there is no Mile of Music. And given that Mile 8 is taking place amid the coronavirus pandemic, the volunteers who "help make the music happen" have never been more important.
There is a plethora of roles volunteers fill each year, from stage and artist assistants to beverage sales and parking attendants. Appleton resident Rich Jandl, a regular volunteer since Mile 2 in 2014, has helped in many of those capacities over the years.

And for three generations of musicians from Northumberland County, it's helped create a bond like no other.
"I don't know a family that's closer than we are. And I think the music has a lot to do with that," Amanda Krebs said.
"It's really special because there are a lot of kids my age who don't have the privilege of being able to say that they can be involved in something as big as that. I love the ability to get up there and rock out next to my mom and my grandpa.
