Surprise, surprise: China’s state broadcaster isn’t so keen on cleavage – SupChina

Glad you are here, this is a 9 News update for Fri 18 Jun 2021:

Media regulators in China have long been uncomfortable with women expressing their sexuality or showing their bodies for artistic reasons. The latest case of censor prudishness was the digital alteration of a small space between a woman's breasts that was almost unnoticeable but was deemed objectionable anyway.

Earlier this week, ahead of its annual gala show to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, China Central Television (CCTV), the Chinese state broadcaster, unveiled a series of posters featuring celebrities slated to appear on the program. One of them is Jǐng Tián 景甜, an award-winning Chinese actress, who wore a mint-colored ruffled gown in the photos.

Jing's poster is nothing out of the ordinary, but some eagle-eyed internet users were quick to notice that her dress in CCTV's photo looked different from the one that she had shared from the photoshoot (in Chinese). The original gown has a tiny "boob window" that shows a bit of the actress' breasts, but in CCTV's version, the gap is covered in an exquisite digital editing job.

Predictably, the bosom block quickly became the talk of social media, where reactions verged from the amused to the outraged. "You can tell that CCTV really holds itself to high standards. This editing work is flawless," a Weibo user commented (in Chinese). Echoing a similar sentiment, some pointed out that because the gala was supposed to be family-friendly and inoffensive enough for everyone to enjoy, CCTV had a reason to make the gown more "suitable for broadcast." "CCTV is like your old father, who can be annoying sometimes for having too many opinions about your clothing choices. But after all, he's looking out for you and wants nothing but good things for you," another one remarked (in Chinese).

On the other end of the debate, commenters accused CCTV of overreacting to an article of clothing that they considered to be "perfectly appropriate" for the occasion. "Whatever the reason, if CCTV wanted to stop people gawking at Jing Tian's boobs, then their efforts have backfired in a big way. I wonder how Jing feels about her breasts becoming a heavily discussed topic on the internet," one person wrote (in Chinese).

It's not news that cleavage is too hot for China’s vast censorship apparatus to handle. Back in 2015, The Empress of China 武媚娘, a blockbuster TV show about Tang dynasty emperor Wǔ Zétiān 武则天 , was abruptly taken off the air one week after its debut on satellite station Hunan TV, ostensibly for “technical reasons.” When re-cut episodes returned to TV, shots of female characters in mildly revealing period dresses were not-so-subtly cropped above the chest area to remove any sight of the bulge of a breast.

Instead of implementing an age-based rating system, Chinese media regulators are stubborn about censoring content based on a long, sometimes arbitrary blacklist. Over the years, a string of foreign shows and movies have come under the ax of Chinese censorship and learned that depictions of nudity are out of the question in the country. Among the relatively new additions to the list are tattoos and men's earrings .

Amy Duggar shocks fans showing off thigh & cleavage in a short dress as she continues to defy

AMY Duggar shocked fans as she showed off thigh and cleavage in a short dress as she continued to defy her strict family dress code.

The Duggar family has observed a strict dress code that usually only permitted women to dress modestly and to wear skirts or dresses.

One of these inflexible rules included not allowing women to show their legs or dress in a revealing manner.

Jill has not been shy about breaking family rules since she abandoned the series with her husband Derick Dillard , 32, back in 2017.

The enforcement of these conservative values by Jim and Michelle also led to Amy's estrangement with her the family.

The TV star bared her shoulders in a stunning maxi dress while paying tribute with a goegeous snapshot of hundreds of small, American flags for the fallen troops.

Amy captioned the post: "We don't know them all, but we owe them all. It really hits home to think about how each flag represents a soul, a spouse, a parent, a son or daughter, a friend, a lover.

Amy and her husband, Dillon King, recently gave followers a tour of their new Arkansas home that they share with their son, Daxton Ryan, one.

'First empirical evidence of an identity-related societal cleavage' | EurekAlert! Science News

The two camps together account for a significant proportion of citizens in all countries: more than one-third in Germany (Fig. 3.1) and almost three-quarters in Poland (Fig. 3.4). In liberal democratic states like Germany, the proportion of 'Defenders' is 20% and that of 'Explorers', 14%. In France and Sweden, 14% and 29% 'Defenders', and 11% and 15% 'Explorers', respectively, were observed. In a semi-authoritarian country like Poland, where according to the researchers the government provides populist support to the 'Defenders' opinions, the proportion of both groups combined is 72%. "This shows how much the conflict can escalate in a country: the polarized positions can grow to form the majority", says Mitja Back. "The degree to which a population becomes polarized and how far feelings of threat and narrow ideas of identity also entail feelings of disadvantage and mistrust therefore vary depending on the political system. This suggests that identity conflicts are open to political influence".

5,011 respondents in Germany, France, Poland and Sweden took part in the survey, which the Cluster of Excellence conducted with "Kantar Deutschland" at the end of 2020. Its authors are the sociologists Detlef Pollack and Olaf Müller, the psychologists Mitja Back and Gerald Echterhoff, and the political scientist Bernd Schlipphak. Their Working Report, "Of Defenders and Explorers: An identity conflict over belonging and threat" ( http://go. wwu. de/ izpgb ), provides initial results. Drawing on the detailed results on more than 20 questions examined, they used cluster analyses to form groups comprising people with very similar attitudes and displaying strong differences one from the other. This yielded the patterns of 'Explorers' and 'Defenders' across all questions.

The cultural conflict also has strong political effects: 'Defenders' favour populist parties and believe much more in the concept of a "strong leader"; they are also prone to conspiracy theories and advocate elements of direct democracy. 'Explorers' hold diametrically opposed views. For example, 26% of 'Defenders' in Germany and 57% in Poland are likely to vote for a populist party (Fig. 6.6), while 'Explorers' tend not to.

According to the researchers, this can represent fundamentally different concepts of politics: 'Defenders' favour concepts more in line with anti-pluralist ideas that claim that political regulations should express a single popular will; 'Explorers', in contrast, share attitudes more compatible with pluralist ideas that claim that politics is a process of negotiation and compromise between different interests. Mitja Back: "A person's positioning in the conflict as 'Explorer' or 'Defender' can have a strong impact on the form of democracy desired. Cultural conflicts over identity have therefore become very entrenched politically, and now structure the population's social and political views to a significant extent".

The researchers therefore urge politicians to refrain from taking one of the two sides. Neither in liberal democracies nor in authoritarian countries has this led to movement in entrenched conflicts, as at least one group always feels excluded. Rather, it is important to take the underlying psychological needs on both sides seriously, and to understand them as social resources, while tracing the sometimes widely divergent demands of both groups back to their functional core. "In this way, it is possible to filter out which positions are not acceptable to each group, and which are open to negotiation. Only by doing so can we find a basis for compromise that currently seems impossible, as well as space for dialogue without one side devaluing the other". (vvm/sca)

Bachelor Matt James shares photo of on-again girlfriend Rachael Kirkconnell's cleavage as

Matt took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday to post a photo of their lunch as they spent time at a restaurant in Manhattan's Lower East Side neighborhood.

The 24-year-old's cleavage was also on full display in the shot, as she wore a tight gray tank top for the lunch date.

The reality star's Instagram Story post comes shortly after the pair were spotted riding a motorcycle together around the city.

Matt and Rachael met on the most recent season of The Bachelor , though their relationship has not always been the easiest.

They splitt for a brief period of time in March, though decided to give their relationship another chance back in April.

At the end of the twenty-fifth season of The Bachelor, Matt picked Rachael over Michelle Young , 27, in the final rose ceremony.

However, Matt took a break from their relationship because he needed "the time to address the troubling information that has come to light since we wrapped filming."

The couple broke up in February after photos surfaced of Rachael attending an Old South Antebellum party in college.

The TV personality received severe backlash for attending the event, which glorified the confederate nation at the time of slavery.

When Salman Khan Reportedly Hit Katrina Kaif With A Stick For Wearing A

Back in 2012, when Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were shooting for Ek Tha Tiger, an unusual incident happened on the sets and became the talk of the town. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film was a blockbuster at the box office and was followed by a second instalment titled 'Tiger Zinda Hai.

Reportedly, Salman beat up Katrina on the sets of the film for wearing a figure-hugging, cleavage-revealing dress which apparently was exposing too much skin.

This was CineBlitz's cover story back in 2012 and became the talk of the town. Reportedly, Salman Khan is known for his anger issues in the industry and the news of hitting Katrina Kaif with a stick went like a wildfire across the industry. The reports also state that Kareena Kapoor Khan came to Kat's rescue.

The magazine report read, "Salman was supposedly sitting out on the set, waiting for his heroine to emerge from her vanity van. When she did, it was allegedly in a figure-hugging, a cleavage-revealing dress that showed too much skin. Or so Salman is said to have felt. Irritated, he supposedly questioned her about what she was wearing and why. Katrina apparently shrugged her slim shoulders and quipped that it was the director's decision…A perfectly legitimate response but one that evidently caused her ex-beau to flip his lid. 'I'll see your director!' he is supposed to have retorted hotly, before allegedly breaking out into a torrent of foul language. But worse was apparently yet to come."

The magazine further stated that Salman Khan hit Katrina Kaif with a stick and eye-witnesses have confirmed the same.

Katrina immediately went back to her vanity post when the incident happened and called Kareena Kapoor Khan for help. Khan, who was shooting a few blocks away for Heroine, rushed to the sets of 'Ek Tha Tiger' and spoke to Salman.

Although later, the sources of various publications dismissed the rumours and called it a 'fake' story.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard Is a Disappointing Sequel | Time

Meanwhile, cars chase each other really fast through the meandering streets of Italian medieval towns, and many, many people get blammed with bullets. This is what you came here for, right? Add Reynold’s naiflike “who me?” mien and Jackson’s trademark pantomime of hostile impatience, and it should all add up to something that’s at least sufficient. There’s also Hayek, a firecracker presence, who’s usually great fun to watch: she has a spectacular sense of humor about herself, which is the sexiest thing in the universe.
