My first introduction to cheerleading was at Dillard Street Elementary when my friends and I took part in the YMCA’s Tri-Gra-Y program. I received a certificate of completion signed by our coach, Pam Hannon, so I “knew” I did well. Of course, every girl in the program got one.
The chance to be a real cheerleader came when I was in the seventh grade at Lakeview. Tryouts for the 1980-81 school year were held in the gym after a week of learning and practicing cheers. I’ve got this, I thought. I’m gonna be a cheerleader, I thought.
I gave it my all — flimsily outstretched arms and bent-knee splits — and then waited to hear my name announced.
But do you know who did make the squad? A girl on crutches. Yes, crutches. I was worse than a girl who could only stand on one foot to perform the cheer routine.
If you look in the Lakeview yearbook, though, you will see my smiling face with the other wannabe rah-rahs on what was called the Pep Squad. We wore matching maroon T-shirts to the Thursday night football games at Walker Field, and we stood as a group in the stands, cheering as loudly as the uniformed cheerleaders by the field. We had the spirit without the status.

Pat Sajak shared some "very sad" news after Monday night's Wheel o f Fortune broadcast . After the episode aired, fans of the game show shared their condolences for Sajak's loss on social media, comforting him after the loss of his beloved dog, Stella. Vanna White also offered her long-time co-host comfort while Sajak shared a surprising connection that he and White had in common.
"You and I have a lot of things in common," Sajak stated, adding, "We both have two kids, we both have the same unusual blood type, but the weirdest of all, we independently, without anyone knowing it, we both named our pets the same name." Sajak informed the audience that White owns a cat named Stella and that he "had" a dog named the same.
That slip into past tense was, unfortunately, very deliberate for Sajak. "I use the past tense because we recently had to say goodbye to Stella," he explained. Stella had been a part of the Sajak family for 12 years before she passed away, and she obviously left an enormous impact on the humans she left behind. "It was a very sad time for the Sajak family," Sajak admitted, but he didn't want to remember his beloved pooch in such a sad way.
Instead, he said, "We wanted to salute Stella by showing you happier days." The veteran game show host then shared two photos of his Stella. The first showed Sajak and Stella frolicking in the snow next to a ceramic dalmatian. The second was a handsome portrait of Sajak sitting in a chair with the eternally loyal Stella sitting at his side. "We're going to miss her," Sajak firmly concluded, adding one last tribute to the dog who shared his home, "she was a good friend."

Back in October, the actress gave away her wedding dress after her messy divorce from ex Lamar Sally.
The couple – who got married in 2011 – actually split in 2014, just before they welcomed their son via surrogate and so, they battled it out over custody.
Unfortunately, because the child was conceived with a donor egg and Lamar's sperm, she was forced to pay child support.
However, a court later appealed that she was legally responsible for her son after she challenged the surrogacy contract and sought to remove her name from the child's birth certificate.
Before Lamar, Sherri was married to Jeff Tarpley for over eight years and they welcomed a son, Jeffrey.
Sherri is famously known for her time as a co-host of The View, where she sat next to Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters for over seven years.
