Outdoor music makes a comeback in Dodge County | Regional news | wiscnews.com

A good-sized crowd listens to a concert on the lawn of the Seippel Center for Music & the Arts in Beaver Dam in 2019. The Beaver Dam Community Band will perform again in 2021 after an absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.

No need to sing the summertime blues this year in Dodge County as outdoor concert series are set to return after being mostly absent in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Bluegrass, rock, country, folk, punk and jazz are among the many music genres to be found on weekday evenings in Beaver Dam, Horicon, Mayville and Waupun.

Jana Stephens, Beaver Dam Community Activities & Services administrator, said a couple concerts were held last summer in Swan Park, but this year the schedule is full.

"We kick off the series on June 16 with an Elvis tribute artist and go right through to July 28, ending with the Beaver Dam Community Band," she said. "People are really so appreciative to get out and I'm sure they're looking forward to the entire series."

Stephens said concert-goers are welcome to bring chairs or blankets so they can manage where they sit.

"These concerts are definitely something where people can really enjoy the music and be safe and comfortable at the same time," she said.

The Horicon Phoenix Program reduced its usual 13-week concert series to six this year because of budget constraints, according to Phoenix President Christine Schmitz. The nonprofit group raises money throughout the year to pay for the bands, but needed to cancel four winter fundraising events due to COVID-19.

Ol' Style Skratch performs last August at Horicon's Kiwanis Park. The Horicon Phoenix Program will hold biweekly concerts at the park this summer.

Watch DJ Khaled's 'Where You Come From' Music Video

"Let's be CLEAR!" DJ Khaled tweeted yesterday . "All these artists have NEVER collaborated on one record before. This is HISTORY. JAMAICA I LOVE YOU." At the rate he's releasing videos, and with the number of artists who joined him on the album, we're looking at a whole year of DJ Khaled ahead of us. Seriously, he says he's filmed nine music videos so far and is preparing the treatment for five more. Of course he is! DJ Khaled isn't about to waste any collab, not when he has a song with Cardi B, a song with H.E.R. and Migos, a song with Justin Bieber and 21 Savage, a song with Drake, ANOTHER song with Drake …

English music-lovers party like it's 2019 at COVID pilot festival | Reuters

Around 5,000 people ditched face coverings and social distancing rules in the name of science and music. They attended the outdoor event having tested negative for COVID-19, and promised to get themselves tested again five days after the festival.

Their data will be used by the government's Events Research Programme to help understand the effect of crowds on the spread of the virus.

But the scientific side of the event was far from the minds of revellers as they danced through the gates of Sefton Park.

Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, said he hoped his pilot project would play a key part in getting outdoor events back on the calendar this year.

"Once they get into the show they can party as though it's 2019," he said. "You can feel that the burden of the last 12 months, the last 15 months, has just been lifted a little."

Sunday's line-up in a purpose-built tent consisted of three acts: local singer-songwriter Zuzu, up-and-coming indie group The Lathums and headliners Blossoms.

Getting to headline the event was an honour, said Blossoms lead singer Tom Ogden: "It's been 413 days since we were last on stage ... It's been a long time and we're delighted to be here."

Lasting less than six hours and with a 10 p.m. curfew, the festival was a far cry from the multi-day hedonism of bigger events like Glastonbury, but those attending said there was nowhere else they'd rather be.

Billie Eilish's 'Your Power' Voted Favorite New Music This Week | Billboard

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (April 30) on Billboard , choosing Eilish's single from her upcoming album Happier Than Ever as their favorite new music release of the past week.

"It's an open letter to people who take advantage -- mostly men," Eilish said about the track in an interview  published this weekend by British Vogue  (of which she graces the cover ). "I would like people to listen to me. And not just try to figure out who I'm talking about, because it's not about that. It's really not at all about one person. You might think, 'It's because she's in the music industry' -- no, dude. It's everywhere."

"Your Power" brought in nearly 57% of the vote, with DJ Khaled 's Khaled Khaled album, The Kid LAROI's "Without You" team-up with Miley Cyrus and more trailing behind.

The Best Music Of April: NPR Staff Picks : All Songs Considered : NPR

Top row, left to right: Rita Payés, ILOVEMAKONNEN, Flock of Dimes, Zao, Toumani Diabaté, Pom Pom Squad. Courtesy of the artists hide caption

Every month, we ask the NPR Music staff: What's the one song you couldn't escape? What's the one album to which you'll return all year? In April, we adored biting and beautiful indie rock from Pom Pom Squad and Flock of Dimes , witnessed Zao 's metallic brutality, were transported by Catalan multi-instrumentalist Rita Payés and kora player Toumani Diabaté , and were reminded why we love ILOVEMAKONNEN.

I've been listening to Zao since I was a young punk in JNCO jeans. Nearly three decades later, the metal band's sound and members have changed, but I'm still struck by Zao's originality and core message: to express themselves honestly, with integrity. The Crimson Corridor is just as savage as anything in Zao's catalog, featuring riffs that rip apart the dark wilderness and thrilling, if unsettling, screams. But there's a spaciousness that I've never heard before: mournful melodies become the Greek chorus, witness to humanity's brutality, taking in the gruesome scene with somber reflection. For all this bleakness, there's an urgency to rearrange the chaos, to find our way back to each other. — Lars Gotrich

Como La Piel is the brainchild of Rita Payés and her mother, Elisabeth Roma, rendering an effortless chemistry. On the opening track, "Nunca vas a comprender," Payés shows the true breadth of her multi-instrumentalist ingenuity, switching from guitar to trombone and back again, lacing the sweet sounds together with stunningly angelic vocals. The resulting magic transports the listener to grassy meadows and lengthy sobremesas – and if it doesn't, this video of the duo performing juntos will. — Anamaria Sayre

Sometimes an album comes along that's so good, you just can't stop listening to it and talking about it. That's the case with Kôrôlén, a fascinating collaboration between Toumani Diabaté, the master kora player from Mali, and the London Symphony Orchestra. This is not only the best release of April but a "best of the year" kind of album. The kora is a 21-stringed West African instrument that's somewhere between a harp and a lute. It sports a large round gourd as its resonating body. It may seem like strange bedfellows to pair such an instrument with a Western symphony orchestra, but when you hear Diabaté's soulful playing, floating above the strings and winds, you realize what a heavenly combination it is. The idea for this collaboration came from Diabaté himself, and its success, I think, is partly due to the amazing orchestral arrangements on the album, like this song, "Elyne Road," arranged by composer Nico Muhly . — Tom Huizenga

In an episode of Rick Rubin's 2019 doc Shangri-La , you can practically read the pain on ILOVEMAKONNEN'S face as he spills his creative frustrations over major-label pressure to follow up the success of his Drake -certified hit "Tuesday." The struggle was twice as real for an artist whose tragicomic trap sound rooted him in a genre where homophobia seemingly kept him on the outs. But after shaking off those major-label shackles, ILOVEMAKONNEN is back, fully independent, with a full-length album titled My Parade that reminds us why we loved him so much in the first place. Still drippy, still trippy, yet totally untrapped by the weight of false expectations. — Rodney Carmichael

Apple Music HiFi, new AirPods may arrive within weeks

Apple might have left music off the menu of its Spring Loaded event, but a new report says Apple Music updates are on the way. According to music enthusiast site Hits Daily Double , which cited “label sources,” Apple will debut a new high-fidelity audio streaming tier “in the coming weeks” alongside the long-expected launch of the third-generation AirPods .

The site says the new service will cost the same price as its standard plan, putting pressure on Spotify and others to keep prices low. Apple Music currently streams at a bitrate of 256kbps, lower than Spotify Premium’s 320kbps, but most listeners likely wouldn’t notice a difference. However, HiFi services up the quality by a factor of 4, with Tidal offering 1411kbps for lossless audio quality. Tidal describes its HiFi tier, which costs $20 a month, as “a more robust and crisp streaming format.”

Apple doesn’t offer lossless audio files through the iTunes Music Store. Back in 2009, it upped the encoding to a higher-quality 256kbps AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) and raised the prices from $0.99 to $1.29 but it hasn’t changed the bitrate since then.

MacRumors contributor Steve Mosser also spotted code references to “lossless audio,” “high-quality stereo streaming,” and “HiFi” with the Music app in the iOS 14.6 beta. The new higher-quality songs would presumably be available to all listeners but will be a huge selling point for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max with spatial audio, as well as the HomePod mini. It’s also a clue that Apple might be bringing the high-end audio feature to the third-generation AirPods.

After a jam-packed iOS 14.5 that landed last week, iOS 14.6 doesn’t include any obvious front-facing features, so it could be a simple update targeted at the new AirPods.

New Colorado Music You Should Know - May Edition - 303 Magazine

Be sure to check out their playlist below and don't forget to follow 303 Magazine and like our New Colorado Music playlist on Spotify :

The solo project of Ivory Circle frontwoman Connie Hong, Fair Elle erupted onto the scene earlier this year with the release of her full-length debut album, I’m Sorry You Feel That Way. Recorded in the comfort of her home studio, the album finds a beautiful balance that will captivate listeners.

If you’ve been listening to the radio lately, Fort Collins resident Joshua Dairen might sound familiar to you. After Indie 102.3 played his songs “ Retro Love ” and “ Space For Two ” he began rising to local notoriety – his most recent release, “Closer to Me,” is a touching tribute to his wife.

A soft-rock duo based in Denver, Splitstep collaborates with others from the local music community to craft songs that everyone can relate to. With only a few singles released so far, their growing fan base can look forward to their upcoming debut album which the band’s social media profiles explain will explore the nature of what it is to be human.

Branching out to self-produce and self-record their own music, Hello, Mountain’s latest single, “Spiralling,” shows a more creative side of the local rock trio. The grooving track shows a glimpse of what fans can expect off their upcoming album, Swim, which is set to be released next month.

Working with six-time Grammy winner Vance Powell , Blakk Mantra layers groovy funk-inspired melodies over classic rock-driven guitar riffs on “Choos Your High.” The single offers fans a teaser of what to expect off of their upcoming EP.

For their most recent album, Separation Sessions, local band Eldren challenged themselves to give new meaning to familiar favorites. In “More of the Same,” the lilting song becomes reminiscent of the endless monotony that many of us experienced throughout the pandemic.

Taking their sound in a new direction, local quintet Ploom’s latest release is a summery new single, just in time for warm summer weather. Keeping a distinctive sound, “Ocean” marks a promising new direction for the local psych-rock group.

Teaming up with a friend and his son, Wiff is the latest project from local musician Peter Higgins, who you might recognize as a former member of the local act The Lollygags. Revisiting music that Higgins wrote more than a decade ago, Wiff has finished the songs and released a full EP, titled Definitely in the Maybe Pile.

BANDroyalty.com Set to Revolutionize Music Worldwide May 5 with Release of BAND NFTs on OpenSea.io

New BAND NFTs certify unique digital ownership in this limited release NFT series and provide opportunities for future earnings through staking options made possible by BAND smart contracts coming in July.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, represent uniquely cryptographically secured works such as music, artwork, videos and other digital files stored on the blockchain.

The BAND NFT Series 1 launches Wednesday, May 5, and is limited to only 3,000. These beautifully designed NFTs stand out through stunning artwork and will eventually allow holders to stake their BAND NFTs into various BAND royalty pools of songs and artists.

BAND Royalty founders Barnaby Andersun and Noble Drakoln, experts in the fields of blockchain and music royalty investing and co-hosts of the CryptoTenX Podcast, have outlined a robust and ambitious roadmap of releases for BAND Royalty in 2021. Starting with this NFT Series 1, BAND Royalty will eventually introduce Band TOKENS and launch a new platform for musicians and fans to interact through NFTs.

Band Royalty plans to grow its catalog of famous and income driven royalty rights through the release of 12,000 total capped unique NFT tokens across four different NFT series in 2021, similar to the limited collectible nature of Crypto Punks and Hashmasks. Funds generated will be reinvested to expand BAND Royalty's music royalty library.

(Reuters) -Warren Buffett ended years of speculation about succession at Berkshire Hathaway Inc by saying Greg Abel, who oversees its non-insurance businesses, would become chief executive officer if he were no longer in charge. "The directors are in agreement that if something were to happen to me tonight, it would be Greg who'd take over tomorrow morning," Buffett told CNBC, the station said on Monday. Buffett, 90, has never publicly signaled any plan to step down.

'What do you think is a fair solution? Should I return some of the cryptocurrency for hours worked?'

'What do you think of the way she has treated her inheritance? If we divorce, will I have to pay her alimony?'

Biden's proposal would put the top income tax rate back at 39.6%, the rate before the 2017 Trump tax cuts lowered it to 37%.
