Lizzo is calling out an alarming trend in the body positivity movement, saying the trend meant to uplift bigger women is starting to fail the people it was meant to empower.
After catching wind of the video, Lizzo expressed that she believes the body positivity movement is no longer about encouraging bigger women to embrace their body as is, saying its messaging has been "co-opted."
"The body positivity movement has been co-opted by 'All Bodies,' and people are finally celebrating medium and small girls and people who occasionally get rolls," explained the 32-year-old. "Fat people are still getting the short end of this movement!"
While Lizzo encouraged everyone to celebrate their body, she said the movement cannot leave behind the people it celebrates.
"The people who created this movement -- big women, big Brown and Black women, queer women -- are not benefiting from the mainstream success of it," the rapper said.
Lizzo also said the movement was never an open invitation for others to scrutinize bigger bodies because "our health is none of your f***ing business."
The artist then followed up in a subsequent TikTok video saying bigger women are less likely to be taken seriously by medical professionals.

Lizzo takes issue with body positivity being 'co-opted' from fat women
According to Lizzo, it's because the body-positivity movement is no longer centered on the type of people who created it.
"Now that body positivity has been co-opted by all bodies, and people are finally celebrating medium and small girls and people who occasionally get rolls, fat people are still getting the short end of this movement," she said.
"Yes, please be positive about your body," she said. "Please use our movement to empower yourselves. That's the point. But the people who created this movement — big women, big brown and Black women, queer women — are not benefiting from the mainstream success of it."
Lizzo capped off her TikTok asking viewers to support people with all body types — not just "these medium girls that you praise." In her caption, she asked fans to use the movement to empower themselves but also to "protect and uplift the bodies it was created for and by."
On Sunday, Lizzo responded to another TikTok user, who made a video asking if people would want to "trade places with someone who was on the heavier side."
Body positive Lizzo stops and poses for the cameras after dinner in LA
I would like to appreciate Lizzo today. Because while there are certainly celebrities, many of them, who can't stand the paparazzi, and they have valid reasons for it, there are other celebrities who aren't bothered by the paps. And don't bother pretending they don't like the attention. Here's Lizzo leaving a restaurant after dinner in LA last night. When she came out, she posed briefly for the photographers who were waiting outside.
Lizzo is having a good time. She's enjoying her success. She is claiming the spotlight. She has earned her spotlight. And, by the way, she must be sober by now but she still hasn't deleted this yet, nor should she. The moments when you can look in the mirror and love what you see are the moments worth keeping.
"The people who created this movement — big women, big Brown and Black women, queer women — are not benefiting from the mainstream success of it. Our bodies are none of your f-cking business. Our health is none of your f-cking business. All we ask is that you keep that same energy with these medium girls that you praise."
When Lizzo is getting papped then, when she's stopping for photographers and not hiding herself, knowing that these photos will be made available the way people with other body types are made available, she understands that these visuals she's providing are representing a less narrow perspective of who gets to be papped, who gets to be famous, and who gets the attention.
The fact that she grabbed another phone for another shot of V says to me that Lizzo consumes a lot of BTS content on her downtime.

Lizzo Says Fat Women Aren't Benefiting From the Body-Positivity Movement | Glamour
On April 8, Lizzo stitched a video from someone who was rightfully upset over a comment telling them to work out. "I don't understand why I can't just exist in my body," the person said through tears. Lizzo took it upon herself to respond.
"Please use the body-positive movement to empower yourself," Lizzo emphasized in the caption. "But we need to protect and uplift the bodies it was created for and by."

Lizzo Called Out How The Body Positive Movement Has Been "Co-Opted"
"The people who created this movement — big women, big Brown and Black women, queer women — are not benefiting from the mainstream success of it," Lizzo explained on TikTok. "Our bodies are none of your f*cking business. Our health is none of your f*cking business." The three-time Grammy winner went on to add that the movement needs to boost big women in the same way it does smaller women, and its supporters need to truly embrace all bodies. "All we ask is that you keep that same energy with these medium girls that you praise," she said.
Lizzo has called out co-option in the body positive movement in the past, saying its been appropriated and "commercialized" in an interview with Vogue. The "Juice" singer said that she considers herself "body-normative" and identifies more with trying to normalize all bodies. "I want to normalize my body," she told the magazine. "And not just be like, 'Ooh, look at this cool movement. Being fat is body positive.' No, being fat is normal. ... I think now, I owe it to the people who started this to not just stop here."
Lizzo also emphasized how mainstream "body positivity" leaves certain women out in the Vogue interview, urging more support and representation for "girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren't separated, that overlap," in other words "girls who are in the 18-plus club."
"We have to make people uncomfortable again so that we can continue to change," she added. "Change is always uncomfortable, right?"
